so a few months ago i bought a 69 chevelle and since then have made some good progress on the car. Im 20 and have always loved muscle cars.

i figured this would be the best place to post this, but if not mods please move

i bought the car running on 7 cylinders, the kid i bought it from didnt own a singe tool, and was not mechanically inclined at all.

heres a few pics of the car when i bought it

future plans are muncie conversion, i have to go through the 12 bolt freshen it up and add a posi, im going to do paint and body myself (shadow grey with a black vinyl top) im going to throw on some 69-70 ss rally wheels, and a bunch of little things.

any suggestions advise or comments are greatly appreciated.

have a good day,
Rich

My '69 came from factory with black vinyl top and stripes. The contrast really makes the car stand out. IMHO You might want to go with black top and black stripe. Really a matter of personal taste.

Your car looks good. A black vinyl top looks great over silver paint. However, if the car was not born with one, I would not add one. Personal opinion.
If you do the 4-speed, Muncies can be expensive. A Saginaw works fine if the H.P. is not radical. Otherwise, use a 5-speed. It won't cost much more than a good Muncie.
1969 is my favorite year. Mine has a moderate high rise steel hood that looks right and also has the later model hood and trunk stripes. Use the Chevelle oval exhaust tips.

small update!
i drove from orange county to riverside and back thursday night. i woke up friday morning to a puddle of antifreeze in my driveway. my flex a lite electric fan mounted universally through the radiator fins and ended up rubbing 2 holes in the cores of my radiator.

so i took it to my shop saturday and ripped the radiator out and took it to Orange radiator and the guy ended up fixing it for free, i just tipped the guy.

i made a bracket to mount the fan in a safe fashion. it turned out pretty good.

id love a 427. but its my only car and i just rebuilt the 350. maybe one day when i grow up! :D

Why are the tailights so crooked?
That looks really odd.

Something is seriously wrong there......
the picture makes it worse than it is, but it is a little pitched, when i do the body work ill be addressing that issue

Great looking car, I think the vinyl top would look great on the car, the next time I paint my '69 it will have a top on it. I think you need to look at putting the side stripe AND the top....both in black, if you are staying with the silver color. If you paint the top just like you paint the car......and don't get any nick or cuts from putting on the vinyl top, you will be ok, as far as rust under the top...........good luck and keeps us posted.....

i figure with todays better primers and sealers, and my awareness of the rust it can produce, it will not rust as bad as the chevelles that sat in a field in Minnesota for years.

im pretty set on doing it sorry guys! if any of you are ripping your vinyl tops off id be interested in the moldings!

oh i almost forget i need to get rid of that HORRIBLE edelbrock 600. im going to get a holley 650, and get a proform choke tower delete main body. if anyone has good deals or any suggestions let me know!

PS- i LOVE this site
What's wrong with the Eddy? Do you plan a lot of track time?

Other thoughts:
If you plan a rear gear change, do it at the same time as the posi (I suggest an Eaton).

When you paint, black out the tail panel and add the trim there.

Research the paint code you want don't just ask for silver.

Change your carb spring from a single to a double, safety first!

Looks great!
