Does anyone have a 1966 with a factory installed rear speaker? If you do would you be kind enough to share a photo of the speaker grille and/or the dimensions of the mounting points for the speaker to the deck? My car originally came with a factory installed rear speaker.

Thank you for the help and Happy New Year!

hello this is what I believe to be correct. my car came with this option but I did not have any of the parts when I bought the car besides the rear fader switch. I got the speaker grille from Hinshaws Chevelle parts. and the speaker cover from a mid 60's big GM car from a junk yard. it was taken off a car a long time ago and stored inside. James a Larson here on the forum has this option as well. he sent me pictures of his set up when I did mine. but I did not save his pictures.

Thank you for posting the photos. That is a big help. I did purchase a speaker grille on ebay that I thought was correct but mine is more oval shaped. When I get home I will post a photo of what I have in case someone has an opinion. I don't want to put the wrong part on the car. Thanks again. Bill d

Keith, Thanks again for the help. I found the original part number in the Assembly manual. It shows 7296871 which replaces 3879566. I did a search on the 7296871 and it returns repro grilles which seem to match yours. Nothing comes up when I search 3879566. When I do a search on "66 Chevelle rear speaker grille" I come up with mostly the rectangular version and one oval shape. Hopefully James Larson will chime in as to which one might be right for an early production 66 (November 65) car as he has what looks like a very original car.

All factory installed 66 Chevelle rear speaker grills were rectangular. Not oval. Regardless of build date.

All dealer installed 66 Chevelle rear speaker grills should be rectangular. Not oval.

However, if the dealer grabbed the wrong rear speaker accessory kit, theoretically he could have installed a left over 65 kit with an oval grill. But that should not be possible either, as the kit contained the fader switch and knob, which were different in 65. So unlikely the dealer would use the wrong kit.

Thanks so much for all the help. I obviously purchased the wrong speaker grille (oval) for my car. I will now try to find the right part.

If anyone here has a car that needs the oval grille let me know, I would be happy to send it to you.

Thanks again.
