I am about to fix an leak in my ac evaporator. My car was not an original ac car so I grafted in the kick panel sheet metal and made the cutouts in the firewall. All of the ac parts came with the car when I bought it in 1991.

My question goes like this. The POA (pilot operated absolute) and TXV (thermal expansion valve) are mounted to the evaporator assembly under the passenger front fender. I see on the web a more common configuration where the POA and TXV are in the engine bay. Can someone tell me the history of these configurations in 1966 because it seems that by 1967, all systems had the POA and TXV in the engine bay?

Thanks, my Chevelle would not exist if not for the tremendous assistance from Team Chevelle.
