REGARDLESS of automatic or manual tranny, there are only 2 sizes of GM flywheels (flexplates), 168 teeth-14in diameter and 153 teeth-13in. This measurement is across the teeth, it is not exactly 13 and 14in, but it is VERY close to 13 and 14in. There are no sizes in between. So, it is EITHER one or the other, PERIOD.

Dan:

We sell McLeod Industries flywheels and I just opened one thats a 168 tooth for a big block (part # 460130-2C). It measures 13 1/2" and if you want/need from tooth edge to tooth edge its 14 1/4"

Hope it helps, call or e-mail me if you need more details.

DZAUTO thanks! Another queston, my flywheel measured approximately 14 (pretty sure) however, my clutch measures 10.5 in diameter. Does this make sense?

Also, you mentioned in another post: "And last, not all BIG flywheels (168) had a bolt pattern for an 11in clutch! Some big flywheels had a bolt pattern for a 10 1/2in clutch!"

Could you possibly elaborate on this some, that may be my problem.

In the mean time, think I go home for lunch and re-measure it.

Dan:

After we spoke on the phone, I was on the phone with Red Roberts (McLeod) and I asked him about the 168 flywheel issue. Red said that 168 tooth flywheels can have different bolt pattern for 10 1/2 or 11" cltuch. If your bolt pattern on the flywheel is 11 5/8" (center to center) then that is for 10 1/2" clutch. If your bolt pattern is 12 5/8 (c to c) then that will take a 11" or 12" clutch

Thanks

Jeff,

Thanks, that's exactly what is happening here. Have 168 with the smaller bolt pattern. So that solves that mystery (man I thought Iwas going nuts). Again thanks for you help.

Dan,

So do I.

I have 168 with a 10.5 in. clutch behind a 400SB.

Thanks Herb, at least I know I am not going crazy. I am going change the flywheeel so that I can up grade to the 11" clutch, I am runny a blown 402 application and think it would be wise to go this route.

thanks, Dan
