Yep,that's what I done.I think most of you know what I am doing to The Black Car,but anyways,I started a thread a couple days ago about not being able to find re-pro outer grille brackets.Someone did post a link for a company that has them for $39.95. After looking at mine again,I said gosh darn it anyhow,I'm saving these original brackets! It was very time consuming, but in the end I have 2 really nice original brackets in primer.:)Keep in mind this is coming from someone who showed off his finished tie-rods at a Christmas Eve dinner.I don't know, just get satisfaction out of saving an original part,no matter how small or unimportant. And yes,I am having a great time doing my car.

A few years ago my father and I cleaned out the garage and shed and had a decent pile of junk.I told my dad that a guy from work would haul it off for free. Dad said "no way' I'll haul it to the local salvage place and sell it.I said ok fine. Dad doesn't own a truck so he asked to use mine. It is a 1 ton 4 wheel drive CREW CAB 454 chevrolet dually. I only drive it to pull my race car.It sits most of the time. He came and got the truck, which had almost NO GAS in it.I live 25 miles from him,so he had to put gas in it. So he puts $25 in gas and drives to his house(25 miles away)loads all the junk, drives another 10 miles to the salvage yard, HAS TO UNLOAD the junk himself....and gets $21 and some change for the scrap....LOL

I'm guilty of the same Gary,I've got all day to do nothing or rebuild wheel cylinders, rebuild a carburator, repair a cracked steering wheel, polish a T/L lens, stainless trim.Just don't like exporting money to China. It's rewarding to save as much of the car as possible and play with cool cars all day.

i've spent way more time on things to save way less money.. but i mostly do it that way because i'm poor and every dollar saved is worth more than whatever time i spend on it, since i've generally got nothing better to do.

There is far more satisfaction restoring or refinishing a part rather than buying a crummy reproduction piece.
Good work

Same conflicting battle I am fighting, my 70 would be easy to set new Chinese front fenders on it but that just bugs me especially on a body part. Have a 4" fiberglas cowl now but have the original cowl stored.
I don't have any problem for engine/suspension bolt ons that wear out anyway, like my Chinese HEI which for 60 bucks has ran hitch free for 3 years now, but the fenders and body, hmmm.
Think since i do allot of sheet metal and aluminum welding making signs, and I did body fender work for 12 years, I really have no excuse so I better take the time this Spring and patch the lower fenders as they are original to the car.

Show us some pictures of the changes your making Gary.
