George, that cam is going to serious rough idle deal. Do you have a stick and some gear in the back?

Haha! Just have to do the roof tomorrow. Only an 8x8.

Heck, the BATHROOM in my garage is bigger than that! :surprise: Tear it down and go bigger. You like little motors and little buildings...I digress...:D

Nope it's an auto with 4500 stall but will be going bigger on the stall....3.90 gears. You think it will be worse than the hyd roller that was in it? It was 300/304adv 240/250 @.050 638/612 111 lsa It wasn't bad, idled about 1000.

Looking at the specs it the comp seems it was intended for 350-370 ci, maybe the extra cubes will tame it alittle?

It's for Deb's garden tools and stuff. She wanted a smaller one than this one even! She will be glad to have it after she gets used to it..

the 106 LSA is the idle killer.
This shortblock has the h beam rods so it takes the smaller base circle cam. Going to get an SHP block over the winter, so would rather spend the money on a cam for that. Was hoping my Jones cam would survive the rod breakage, but it didn't. Would be nice to have a hydraulic roller for it.

Glad to hear you decided on an aftermarket block!! The extra cubes and strength will serve you well....
Hope it does the trick! Should be a good "little" motor with the Profiler heads / Motown intake.

The more that I look at "Plan A" the more I like it. Maybe the higher torque would assist getting that Chevelle rolling. That cam's RPM range is 3500-6900, so that might be pretty neat deal to try. As long as it is priced well, but I think Chris would probably work out a deal for you.

I just ordered some 275/60-15 MT ET Street S/S tires from Summit to put on those rims that you sold me. I have to order some axles and 1/2 inch studs/nuts. I'm torn between Strange and Moser. Some of the reviews say that the flange is 1/8" thicker on the Moser axles. I might have to call them.

Anyway, Plan A all the way! Get your car in a couple of weeks, and enjoy the rest of the Summer!

Yeah Chris is going way beyond what anyone would probably do for me. Will get the monster motor going this winter, take my time and get it dynoed etc. should be a fun experiment anyway.

I gotta say those ET S/S work awesome on mine....as long as I remember to get the tire pressure to 15-16 psi. Car dead hooked even with the 383 on the fri noprep tnt. Everyone was complaing about spinning. Mine got up there and almost pulled the wheels. With a stick might be different though.

My stock spline axles were the Moser street series. No issues with those. Now I have the 33 spline Moser race axles. Either brand is gonna be good I'd think. I'm gonna grab an empty housing at some point and put together another 12 bolt with those street axles, eaton posi and the 3.31's. Be nice to have one around..

Chris Straub sells a aftermarket crank, and I can't remember the name, but there dimensionally the best I've seen, so good I called the manufacture and thanked them for their good work, thats the one I would use, didn't even need to be straitened.

In the RPM heads on your 355?

Idle killer and the surging will be really obnoxious around town, but it will be great if you maintain 2300 + RPM's:D

I have 108 in my 496" and it is right on the ragged edge of surging if you don't keep the rpm's up. My 112 I had previously would chug right along at 45 MPH in 5th gear (OD .84) and not miss a beat. With the 108 I need to be at 55 ish for it to be really smooth in 5th. I would never go less than 108 on the street and I run a manual trans.

2300? Mine never sees that low except pulling away from a stop sign. My Jones roller was 111 and still loped some at 3000.

I'd rather have another hydraulic roller like I had, but running this shortblock takes a small base circle cam and this is what was in it. Not sure if the SHP block running h beams would require a small base circle cam or not. Don't really want to buy two cams ( well three if you count my bent one).

So if using an SHP block, 3.75" stroke and 6" rod like Cstraub recommended will it require a small base circle cam using an h beam type rod?

I will just be happy to have something to race with.

No in the Profilers...Im hoping no issues with the 355 stuff. Anything is possible!
Glad to hear the 355 is still in one piece. 0:)

So what's left from the 383 at this point? Carb and intake? Are the heads still usable?

Eric sent me a message a bit ago that the heads will need some guides, valves, valve job and surfacing. Then they will be good to go. So that is kinda good news. :D

At this point still waiting to hear back on the lifters. So I think I'm down to the intake, heads and valvetrain, valve and timing covers, harmonic balancer, water pump and possibly lifters when I hear back from Mike. I still have the 650dp and the 1050AN QFT carbs...and the 770 SA that my buddy has been using. The pushrods may still be ok, but will probably not be the correct length I'm thinking.

7 of the pistons look ok from the tops, but the undersides look pretty beat up. The one on the broken rod, it doesnt look too happy. Will make a nice trophy though!
