With what you have I'd say yeah it's a little big, did you call/talk to WolfPlace ? he may be able to help you out on a set of 210's.

from what I am finding out if you want it to drive on the street, 200 is going to be good.

220's would be way to much for the street, and you would have to go to a single plane int manifold losing all your low end power. even with 210's you wont start coming on until about 3500rpm.....remember match the cam, manifold and heads for best performance.

I think for your needs the 195's would be your best bet.

Dan,

For what you are doing I would stick with the Canfield 200s you already have (had?) or go to any number of quality heads around the 200 cc range. The AFR 210 would be OK to.

I would not run the AFR 220 unless you are prepared for custom headers and shaft rockers. I ran a set on my old 383 SBC and with standard rockers the valvetrain geometry was less than ideal. I got away with it on a 98% track car. I wouldn't do it on a driver. No off the shelf headers fit. It is a good head, just not the best for your combo.

To make use of the 220 head you need good compression, a big cam with a lot of lift, and spin the motor.

My mismatched 10.31:1 383 SBC combo at 3610 lbs ran a best of 7.37@93+ MPH with a converter that was about 1500 RPM too tight (4000-4200 flash stall). Best 60' was only 1.60. Chassis dynoed at 389 RWHP @ 6800 RPM in 98 deg. heat.

You might look at the Brodix M2 - 215cc head or the Dart Pro 1 - 215 cc head if you need a new head quick and just have to go to a bigger head. The Brodix is good out of the box. The Dart responds very well to porting.

Give Mike Lewis (Wolfplace) a call on the Brodix or Mike Stark @ CFM Performance a call on the Dart.

Good Luck,

Way too big for a heavier car. You want to stay in the 190cc range. We had several 383/406 combos in 3200# cars running AFR 190cc heads, out of the box running high 10/very very low 11.

Keep the port sizes small, which will keep the velocity up and make good USEABLE power.

chevyguy 65 your car weighs 3210 with u in it mine came out at 3600 with me 200LBS in iti know i have about 125lb in stereo stuff and spare but i am way over weight
I sent you a pm.

I had mine weighed at an asphalt batch plant with me in it.

I also checked a couple of websites and curb weight for the 65 with the z-16 396 was 3010lbs, so if you take off 100 lbs roughly going from a BB to a SB your at 2910lbs.

BTW, I weigh in at 225

I agree. I'm running the AFR 195's on my 383 with 10.1:1 CR and a Comp XR282HR cam. I wanted a head that would make a nice wide torque curve and they delivered. My motor made 475hp & 478lbft. today on the dyno (those are the corrected numbers) and the motor makes over 400lbft. torque from about 3000 rpm on up. I was able to buy my heads (AFR model #1036) off-the-shelf just about 3 months ago. I would try calling these guys to see what they have in stock:
