Team Chevelle,

Have a dilemma. Building a 383 race only stroker and really want to go with Pro-Filer heads 2.02/195cc. So I placed an order about a month ago and called to check status today. They told me they'd been really slammed and did not have any 2.02s but did have some 2.05s. Here's my question:

I'm running forged flatop -5cc Mahle pistons and a 645 lift cam (257 duration intake/264 exhaust). If more info is needed, I can provide but believe the above two specs are the most important. Can the pistons handle 2.05 heads. My 'on the surface' answer says they can, but anything beyond that would require different pistons or machine work to existing pistons which I'm not going to do.

Thanks!

A 2.05 valve should not be an issue. But if it is, it's only because the eyebrows of the valve reliefs needs to be opened. I used 2.05 valves on my 355 with SRP Pistons.

Give me a call, I have the heads in stock with our ATK version which has a better fitting exhaust port that will work with off the shelf headers as well as a better oil drain back system. Have a 7% off sale for Chevelle members right now

He really doesnt move any of the 2.02 mainly the 2.05 and we are his #1 buyer of heads, I have him back logged :D

Brandon, Are those heads ready to run out of the box, as far as the valve job/machine work goes or do they need to be checked?

Just like any Edelbrock, Dart, AFR it would be wise to check things over and blow them out. I use these on all my builds, hundreds a month and havent seen any issue with them other than maybe some shavings left inside on a couple, very rare. I shim the springs for certain applications depending on the engine build as well, but very nice Heads, no machine work should be needed.

Brandon how long have these been out? I remember reading about them awhile back. BTW whet do the ex. ports measure W x H?

The Pro-filer version years, our version we have been using for about a year now, didn't release them to the public when we got enough stock until about 6 months ago.

Exhaust port dimensions are 1.430T x 1.500W

How much of a split in cam duration (if any) do you tend to use on your builds with those heads?

The most common is 237/245@50 597/.597 112lsa, this is in our 500HP 383 combination. We have used a few larger cams, but on custom builds mainly with different setups. Smaller builds we will use a 220/224 @50 528/536 110lsa and that will draw up to around 450HP+ with an air gap and a 680cfm vac secondary.

Wish I had of seen this sooner or I would have called (that's my fault as it was a few days before I got back on here). Went with a set of Dart Pro 1 heads. Before my Dad retired from drag racing, he ran them on his 57' and really liked them. Though I respect Dart a great deal, I really wanted to go with Pro Filer but after waiting for so long, just for me to call and learn I was no closer to getting them anytime soon, I had to go with another manufacturer due to some time constraints.
