hi there the trans is a saginaw from a 4cyl car ( the 3 id rings around input) like a early mid 70s vega or monza setup i cant see the sidecover if it has 3 levers in the cover its a 4spd if it has 2 its a 3 spd take care regards tom T&B Transmission

Yeah, it has two shafts, so its a 3spd. Just interesting to know its not originally from the malibu.

Should be interesting with the super-low first and the 4.10 gears in my 49...
 
While I'm posting blather I can also add that the last manual trans Chevelle / Malibu wagons possible were very early 1975 models, and would be 2.54:1 low Saginaws (same as any 327 or 350 Sag). A 2.85:1 low was used with the sixes (last wagon use in '73) or 283 / 307 versions (guess the years :) ).

As posted earlier, the Vega or the odd Monza could have donated this trans.
