I just finished a 460 with 9.8 compression, Shell 91 octane gas, 228 @ .050 HYD roller, GM 781 heads, Performer RPM air gap intake, 1000 AED carb, 4 quart oil pan, Mahle pistons, GM 3/8 rods, The small bore took a hit on TQ, but I had to keep the compression down, cam was on a 110, but I was very happy with the 6300 HP peak, it really amazes me what these GM parts are capable of, This could very well run bottom 10s in a good full weight Chevelle with
excellent vacuum.

OMG.

INSANE! How the heck do you do this stuff? Did you sell your soul??? I REALLY hope the guy who you built this for appreciates (and understands) how bad azzzzz this build is.

Way to go (AGAIN) MJ.

Outstanding Mark,, very impressive :beers:

Yikes! Very nice!
So what differs between this and your $5695 engine listed on your site? Is this an example of one of those engines?
No trying to answer for Mark, but Mark, you do know your PDF is no longer available right? It's a returning a 404 on the link.

I have it downloaded (2 years ago) and all of the 468cid engines are hydraulic flat tappet cams except for the top one which is a solid flat tappet cam. Unless of course, Mark has made changes.

You sneaky dude! Congratulations!

Someone is going to be awful happy!

JIM

596 TQ at 4200 RPM? Wow....!!!!!

Mark, because no one seams to have the stones to say it, I will.

YOU ARE THE MAN!

That thing makes more power than alot of crate engines that have "better" aftermarket heads, more cam, and more compression.

But question? What are you going to do when all the 781s are gone?:D

'Nuther reason to justify my keeping 781s on my BBC.....

Nice work! :beers:

Relax fellas: there are still a lot of 781 castings out there......as well as 049 castings. I'd be shocked to find out the supply is in danger of running out.

Heck.....we've seen what Mark can do with lowly Peanut Port Heads.

Thanks for the nice comments! Everything just fell right together on this one. This is a 570 HP with a hyd roller and Mahle piston upgrade. Cam lift is .550, 170/380 pressure. For people using these GM production heads I can't tell you how important it is to use good castings with no core shift on your project, it makes all the difference.

That is a concern, but I don't mind working with the AFR heads as well. Fortunately I've always liked hunting engine cores since I was very young, it may sound stupid but I could see the potential of that 454 sitting in the dirt, and to this day I still like to exploit that potential at a drag strip.

Great job Mark!

Damn, that thing is only down 10ftlbs, and 17hp from my AFR headed 467 you built, and I have 10.5:1 compression!

Do you think the AED 1000 carb is worth power over my AED 950 HO Modified (CNC main body and boosters)?
