I’ve put Dynamat Extreme on the firewall and was wondering if it will be enough to keep the engine heat out of the car?

I plan on doing the rest of the floors with Dynamat after I finish putting the Dash back in.

Any feed back on this would be great!

Thanks in advance

You will be amazed at the difference in temp as well as sound. did the firewall and floor in my 67 when I swaped the trans out to 5 speed, and am no longer bothered by the heat from the headers and can actually hear the radio playing now. Jb
Thanks for the Reply
Did you use the Extreme or just the regular Dynamat on the floor?

I put it in the doors and rear fenders beneath the quarter window as well. Makes the doors sound really solid instead of tinny when closing. Hated covering up all that nice epoxied and painted sheet metal though :D Here's some pics before and after. Trans tunnel and rear seat done were done as well. I used the Brown bread as I have found it to be as good or better than the dynamat and a fraction of the cost

cheers,

beauty of a red MIke.........
what color is it actually?

Thanks Haughty. It is actually based on Ford's Bright Red (E4) that they use on their Rangers and Sport Tracs with a little tweaking, but don't say that out loud ;) Wanted a change from all the Torch Reds out there...Here's a better pic of the colour on the car in the assembly process.

This should probably be on the Interior or Tech boards though, and not Restoration...

Hey Mike,

I will be doing my interior this winter. Where can I buy Brown Bead?

Stan, Brown Bread has actually changed to B-Quiet Ultimate which is what I used. Check out the comparison chart to Dynamat in the link below. Today is the last day to get it for 10% off. I bought a 50' roll and it did the whole floor plus the doors and the quarter window area. Not bad for a $100 bucks. It doesn't have the Dynamat name on it but for a couple hundred dollars more you can :D

Bad 67 ...... Thanks for posting the link , I was ready to buy some Dyna mat !!! I checked out the site and am a little confused on what to use on the floor of my 66 .........is the B-Quiet Extreme better to use than the B-Quiet Ultimate for heat and sound ?? Is it neccesary to add another product on top ?? only concerned about road noise and heat ........ no stereo is this car .......... Bill

CDN SS,
The Ultimate is a little thicker than the Extreme, so if weight is a factor I would go with the Extreme. The Ultimate also apparently exceeds Dynamat's capability at the higher temperatures where you want it most in the summer, on top of being a little thinner. Being a deadener, it is great for reducing road noise. The aluminum foil top layer is shiny on both sides so it will reflect heat back out and keep the inside cooler. However, these products are more for reducing sound vibration than reducing heat transmission... Lays down easy. Use a small ball of it to dab the edges or places where the butyl is exposed to clean it up. Just lay your jute and carpet over top and cut to fit as normal. You'll be able to hear yourself think again if you have Flowmasters with headers :D

Mike

Bill,
Glad I could help,...and save you some dough! Just a note that you will not have enough to do the Quarter windows if you do the firewall (assuming 50' roll). I used the stock firewall pad and only put Ultimate up to the base of the pad (about a foot up from the floor). In hind sight, I should have done the complete firewall and skimped in the doors and quarters. Next time.

Happy New Year,
MIke S.

No problem ..... just going to do floor and up under the stock firewall pad as far as I can ........ I sprayed the inside of doors and rear quarters with a spray on sound deadner ......

Thanks for all the replys! Nice looking 67! Man I wish I posted before I got the Dynamat you could have saved me some cash.

Happy New Year everyone

I know that the factory underlayment helps protect from moister and condensation. I have seen cars that people have taken this out, the floor rot has accelerated and the jute has rusted to the floors. Would brown bread have the same protection as the factory stuff? I do not want to cause a moister problem in my floors. My floors are original and clean so I am just taking precautions. My car is a convertible so some sounding would be great.

Thanks Nelson

Nelson,
I am not an expert on this stuff, only a user, but I would think that it would surpass the factory stuff as it is non-porous. I would still epoxy primer the floor or use the POR15 or Rustoleum products followed by a urethane top coat as the first defense against moisture...

Here's a great comparison that I just found a link to on the Team Camaro site. This should help a great deal in answering the many questions regarding this stuff... http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com

cheers,
MIke S.
