Well it came with the truck. I just got home from the dealer. It`s a 2005 Dodge Ram quad cab. I drove a 4.7 Ram about a year ago but never a 5.7 Hemi. Man it`s got power. Normaly I don`t get all giddy over a truck but I traded in my 2003 S-10 that I was about $9k upside down. With the employe discounts and the fact that they had a newspaper sitting in the lobby with a competiters ad showing a additionl $2k of employe price, I was able to buy the truck for less than the original sticket price, out the door. I don`t normaly get great deals like this but I`ve been patiant and waited for the right time and was able to get out of my little truck, finally, and into a "family" truck. Anyway, I had to get it out of my system. Thanks for putting up with it.

Congrats. They are great trucks. I have an 04 QC with the Hemi and have had one problem (an interior clip broke and needed replacing...thats it) but it was a $5.00 part and was covered under warrenty.

They are put together very well and are fast for a 5500lb vehicle. The Hemi's mileage is horrible in town(10-11), but got ~17mpg on open highway with a tailwind, but it surprised me.

Does the 05 have the displacement on demand like the cars? I heard they were putting the DoD in the trucks but wasnt sure if it was in 05 or 06.

Either way good luck with it and hope it serves you well.

yeah gas should be expencive but we needed a bigger vehicle.

Chris, I never heard of DOD. I`ll have to look on my window sticker or ask the salesman when I go back in today to drop off my down payment check. This is my first non-GM vehicle and I know very little about Dodge`s. I don`t know if it has anymore room in the back than a ex cam Chevy, seems like a little mor but it`s hard to tell, but it has the actual door and that makes it a little more easier to get the baby in and out of the back seat. Thanks for the replies guys.

I Drove A Magnum RT a week back, gm is really missing the market, that car ran very well with a 2.93 gear set, my caprice wagon 96 LT1 CAR WOULD NOT HAVE A CHANCE COME ON GM
...but those Magnums are tiny compared to the old Caprice wagons. Good luck fitting a 4x8 sheet of plywood in one.

I've got a '95 caprice wagon. Do you still have your '96? Did you know there were only 485 caprice wagons built in '96?

My father and I each have an 05 Hemi Ram quad cab 1500 4x4. Dads truck has developed a knocking noise in the motor with 11,000 miles on the truck. The dealership has basically refused to fix it saying that Chrysler considers that a "NORMAL" noise. If the truck was a 1978 Power wagon, I would understand, but not a brand new vehicle. I, too, have had my share of problems with my truck. Dads truck and mine were delivered after ordering them on 3/25/05 and mine has had nothing but problems. I have had over 40+ problems now and just have 5300 miles on the truck. After arguing with Chrysler numerous times, they have finally agreed to buy back the vehicle. (This was a 2 weeks ago this coming Wed., and I have yet to hear back from them on their offer). As far as I am concerned, this will be the last Dodge and Chrysler product my family buys. I am now looking into purchasing a Ford F-150 extended cab 4x4.

Anyway, good luck with your new truck. Dad gets about 17 mpg higway and I get about 13-14 combination city and highway. Hopefully you dont have the problems I have had.

Sorry to hear that Brian. Was it a knock or that "Hemi tick"? I do understand about the vehicle with no service. A few people I have spoken to had the same problem and I cannot understand why DC won't help. Also, my freind's dad has one (with the 5.4 Triton) and it has a slight "slap". Not trying to sway you, just telling you what I hear.

Yea, buying an 8 cyl truck and getting the DoD would aggrevate me to no end. I would rather pay the money for the 89 then have the valves shutting down in my motor. Didn't Cadillac (?) do something like that and it was a big flop? I know DC has done it in its Hemi cars, but not the trucks, so it may be in 06.

The big question: What color?:)

Chris

i hope you are going to use it to haul more than the kid around in it..
that is one thing that bugs me to no end- people buy these big trucks, call them cars, and never use them as a truck. most of them never even get locked into 4X4 mode, and if they do, it's only because there's 3" of snow on the road and they think that driving in 4X4 mode somehow makes their "car" able to go 80mph during a blizzard.
why not get a AWD minivan and save some coin at the gas station?
yeah, yeah- i know it's your money and you can spend it how you like, but come on. i don't know how many 3/4 ton trucks i see tooling around every day with not even a scratch in the bed from actually being used, with the owners freaking out if they get a little bit of dirt on the running boards.

Derrik, I know what you mean. It is my means of daily transport, and while I don't tow/haul everyday I do use it a lot for extra storage when the garage is full, helping a freind move car parts when he bought his Camaro, and plan on towing the Chevelle to E-town. Plus, with the last few witners we have had the 4X4 comes in handy, but I do know what you are saying about 4X4 giving you the ability to do 80 in a snow-storm :clonk: .

But another aspect is the safety. Thumb thru the newspaper for the pictures of accidents. If I hit something in this truck, and I am not doing anything stupid, I have a much better chance of walking away then if I were driving a Civic. So I bought it for the utilitarian purposes, but more for the safety.

Think of the people buying the trucks like this: Ever go to a carshow and see the cars that people build that cost more then I make in a year? They don't drive them, but they build them with the BBC's, Blowers and nitrous. But they never take them to the track. Its kind of the "to each his own" theory. Thats the way I look at it.

Chris

Enjoy your new truck buddy! There is no feeling in the world that compares with riding around in your brand new vehicle! And the first carwash... first oil change... first waxing... :)

I just bought my wife a Durango with the HEMI. It has decent power(not my Chevelle or my Cummins diesel). The day I worry about fuel mileage I request someone shoot me dead. I want my family to be safe. Thats the bottom line.

Chris,

Supposedly from what I have heard on Dodgetalk.com, DC is aware of the problem and claims "They are developing a new cylinder head". My thought about it is that they are not going to do a recall because it is going to cost them millions due to all of the vehicles that now have the Hemi's. You figure, the Grand Cherokees, Rams, Durangos, Chargers, Magnums, and 300C's all have the hemi and how many of each of them have they sold since 2003 when they first put it in the rams? I know a bunch of people that have the Ford F-150's and havent had a problem. I have, however, read over 14 printed pages from Dodgetalk.com about people having problems with their Hemi. Granted, you have your occasional vehicle with problems (like my ram) but I have not heard that many problems with the F-150s. My 97 Ram I sold because I was getting concerned that the mileage was getting high (100,000 miles) and had no problems. My family has been strictly mopar since as long as I can remember and it seems that since Daimler bought out chrysler, the quality and workmanship has gone straight downhill. I am not trying to scare you with your new truck as I know many people that are happy with the rams. If it were not for all of the problems with mine, I would be happy with it too as it has plenty of power and performance and is a very comfortable ride.

There are also pages and pages of ford motors blowing the spark plugs out of the cylinder heads..... Everybody's got problems, just hope that yours isn't one of them!

I worked at a Dodge dealer for 11 months back in 1994. I heard more rod knocks, piston slaps, valve ticks, and ****ed off warranty denied customers, than in 18 years at GM dealers. Better buy the aftermarket extended warranty NOW!!

Good luck!

(my previous Silverado went 245,000 mi with only maintenence and an EGR valve...)

My '03 Ram has been great; a little under powered with the 4.7 non hemi engine and the mileage is so-so at 14-15mpg combined. The truck has only been back to the dealer once in 42K miles and that was for the first oil change. Hasn't been back since. Don't ask me about the Silverado I had before the Dodge, it was junk, so everybody has a tale of woe...Enjoy your new truck, especially that great exhaust note!

The main problems with the engines have seemed to be the Hemi's. There appears to be a problem with the valve train as they had valve springs breaking early in 2003. They supposedly corrected the problem but people are still complaining about loud ticking noises (hence the "Hemi Tick"). With the 03's especially, the valve spring would break, drop the valve into the cylinder, and blow the piston apart causing total engine failure. Chrysler says this noise is supposed to be there yet not all Hemi's make this sound. I understand that every vehicle is prone to stuff breaking but with the amount of people having problems with this motor...... its just not acceptable. the noise is easily fixed by changing the oil weight, just nobody bothers to research before bitching about it. Look up dodge truck world and you'll find your answers..

Brian, hopefully I won`t have the same problems as you and your father have had. I`ve only got 200 miles on it now so who knows whats down the road.

Chris, I got a silver one. My last 2 trucks have been white (both Chevys) and I always liked the silver trucks.

Derrik, I hear what your saying but rest assured, this will be used as a truck as well as I family vehicle. I`m a Harley mechanic for a living and I see all of these yuppy scum buying bikes because they saw American Chopper and thought it would be cool to own one. Half of the customers we get don`t even know how to check the oil in these bikes. I need a truck to haul bikes, parts, tools, engines, chevelle parts, etc. A mini van was never even a thought in my head. my wifes honda civic isn`t big enough for the 3 of us and as pointed out before, I also feel alot safer in the bigger truck. In my S-10, my baby had to ride in the front with me. Now she`s in the back seat and this truck sits alot higher than my S-10 so I do feel safer in it. By the way, I`m a chevy guy and always will be but the chevy guy would`nt deal with me. the dodge dealer has like 200 trucks to push and I stuck to my guns and told them what I was going to pay and they made it happen.

The truck calls for 5w-20 which is what I have been using and the dealer has been using.
