The shaker has to face the rear or it will take on water when driving in the rain.
How did the 'Cudas and Mustangs get away with forward facing scoops?

As far as the offset on the scoop goes, is it possible that the offset could be there to allow for torque movement of the engine?

I seem to remember the TA hoods having a offset because of the motor as well.
You got to fab up a custom piece that connects the carb to shaker, just make it the correct offset and forget about it...Eric
I'm having a hard time coming up with a offsett fixture. I was thinking carbspacer, any other ideas.
Still makes me wonder why the carb measures about 3/8-1/2 out of center from the fenders....

I didn't know about the Chevelle, but early Camaros would offset the engine (just big blocks I think) to clear the steering and brake cylinder. I think that's what he's refering to.

Interesting....... anyone out there with a 66 Chevelle car to measure from bolt(carb center line to inside of fenders) to check this out?

I was thinking motor mounts, drivers side stretched, passenger side compressed. Went out and measured my '66, sure as sh!t, air cleaner bolt is 3/8" closer to the passenger side. I have solid mounts, and a collision free frame. 27 years and I never noticed.
I always dug "Shaker's", but would never have been so adventuresome as to contemplate a transplant on my Chevelle. I kinda like it, but personally I think that a '67 Malibu hood would be the best fit, the offset wouldn't be nearly as noticeable with out '66 hood lines.
Look forward to see the finished product, use a cheap chrome air cleaner base that sits flat on top of the carb, cut it out (round or square) just off center. Then tack weld it square to the shaker base.
Just a simple suggestion, to see how you like it, right now you seem a little aprehensive. You can get a good representation of the concept, without totally committing a bunch of time and work on it, just give it a fair "shake".

I got it centered Saturday.

I had to put a flat washer on the top 2 bolts of the motor mount between the engine block and mount.
Looks good and measures in the center:)
