Big Jim... Where were ya??? There was a big turn out tonight at the track. I ran my best time tonight.

1.972 60 Ft
88.58 Mid MPH
8.150 660 time
109.36 MPH
12.602 ET

This was the 1st time I ran the HOOSIER QTP's

Steve???? Is this the same Steve that I e-mailed earlier in the week? Ted's cousin?
Congrats on the new best. What tire pressure did you end up with?
What RPM did you shift at?

still spinning badly, on a better track along with serious suspension tuning and better air could optimally land you in the 12.00 to 12.20 range if not better.
You're picking up 20.5 mph on the back half, so there is ethier a Fuel problem, the jetting is off or the timing is off.

A 12.0 car should find 22-23 mph on the back half.

Yep... same one... small world. I experimented with pressures between 15 and 22 lbs. There was only about 10 ft of VHT on the track so it was a little slick. I accually ran faster MPH on 15 lbs, but a higer ET. My best run was at 20 lbs. I shifted at 5500 RPM for all of the runs.
I noticed a reply saying either timing or jetting was off... I did the jetting on a chassis dyno to get the A/F ratio correct and timing was at 34 degrees total advance. Should I advance it more??

Brian, the track was prepped(some what) from what I heard and I dont think spinning is steves problem as much as 3.5 gears and a very low stall. I go 1.5x 60 on the track with a stock suspension C10 truck

Jim,
Sorry to hear you are under the weather. There was a little "controversy" at the end of the night last night with someone named "Leonard" and "Troy". I'll fill ya in later.

What stall speed should I be running?? I was thinking going from the 2500 stall to a 3000 stall... think that will help the 60 ft?

Steve

At what rpm is you timing all in by? For racing, you want it all in by at 2500 RPM at the latest. As far as the total amount goes, that is combination specific. But for an NA motor, anywhere from 34 to 40 degrees is the range,....normally.

Hey steve..fill me in on the controversy..Leonards my pal.. As far as stall goes...my motto is the more stall the better. A 3000-3200 will be light years better than the 23-2500 one. let me guess on the controversy..someone was complaining ones car was not "street" legal.....wonder if it was the wheelie bars and chute...lol

You were running in Redding? You are not a sea level and unless it was a real nice day don't worry about the couple of MPH you didn't get in high gear. Yes more advance would help but it may make your traction problems worse. I would get it to hook with what you have now and go from there. Adding more power to non hooking car does nothing but make the problem worse.

I had my car paked up in the trailer and was just watching bit of racing (was hungry) and all of the sudden the Paramedics and track crew went to the pits. According to CJ from Full Throttle some blows were exchanged after their race (I believe it was for $500). It seems on their race one of them red lighted. The argument was that since it was a .5 tree the winner was decided by et no matter if he red lighted or not. I went ahead and left as they were dibursing the croud, but passed the County Sherrif on my way out... so I am not sure how it all ended.

Nice! I knew ya'd improve. I'm gonna stick to my prediction that you'll be able to find atleast another .5 outta that car with more seat time.

Dam..maybe its a good thing I wasn't there. I usually take half of Leonards action and would of been abliged to assist in the malay.

I also noticed that when I shift from 1st to 2nd the shift was firm and on-time, but from second to 3rd it sorta slid in gear.. it was far from immediately when I shifted. What would cause this?? and is it eating up my ET??

What tranny do you have? Is it 'prepped' at all? Yes it will eat ET. I had a th350 that used to do that...put a better kit in it and it was fine.
It is a TCI "Street Fighter" TH400. It is supposed to be a street/strip tranny. It has been nothing but a piece of S$#* since I got it. It has leaked from every seal and had a bad pump. I am calling Summit to complain... I'll let ya know how it goes.

I think you'll find a chassis dyno jetting slightly lean, try jetting up a couple size til mph falls off. Let me know what you find out about being lazy going into 3rd, mine was doing the same thing yesterday, I'm gettin pretty tired of changing transmissions.
