Hello everyone, my name is Matt. I personally do not own a chevelle, but I do own a 65 Buick Skylark(no major bashing please, but a little teasing is fine :D). Personally my favorite year is a 67. You may be asking what a
Buick guy is doing on the Chevelle site. No I don't even have a Chevrolet engine in my car( it will proudly stay Buick). I'm not here for myself in all honesty. I'm just a car guy who is looking to help out another car guy/friend/boss who has given me the opportunity to make my dream become a reality. He has a 69 Chevelle he bought brand new in 69, 396 375 horse, with m-22. It hasn't ran in many years and I want to get it running for him as a thanks/ surprise.
Could you guys please help me get together a correct parts list and cost to properly rebuild/re-blueprint a 375horse 396 from 69? What I need to keep an eye out for, any information I need when I rebuild it?

Go to your local auto parts store and get them to order all the stuff from Sealed Power or Fredal Mogel. They will have all the factory spec parts. I would double check the trans. It's more then likely a M21.

It is a m-22 for sure. L-78 car. Had I believe a KQ code 4.10'd 12 bolt. Red paint, black vinyl top, black interior with buckets. The car set the 1/8th mile national record for... c stock i think? I don't recall the name of the class. All the right boxes were checked with this car(for performance). I want to make sure it is done the right way.

Recheck that rear end please, KK or KQ?

I believe it is a KQ, but I may be wrong and it be a KK

C stock was not 1/8 mile. I happen to own the record holder for few classes including C stock. most of those higher classes were Mopar dominated. until around 72. when rule changes high mopar hard for running the hemi engine. allot of the teams then went to IHRA or AHRA,,,

Here is Ronnie's Kelly Chevrolet sponsored L78 Post Sedan Chevelle.

That is a BEAUTIFUL car! It is a hardtop. I will have to ask what class it was then, it ran c-stock in the 1/4 then at muncie(I can't ever remember the class designations... waaayyy before my time lol). The record was set at Bunker Hill i'm pretty sure.

You don't want to have the block decked as part of blueprinting the engine if the original deck stamp is on it. Machining off the stamp will damage the value of the car.

Mine was blue printed when new. They did few things. Dyno 588 hp. Mine spun most of the way down the track. After it goes back to as raced the new owner is going to run it. I'm sure she will be faster than 11.25. Back then roll bar not needed for B stock. I gave my car to my wife.

The records had to be NHRA sanctioned. A local track record is one thing. Then division. Then national. Mopar held most class records back then. Gm was in a few but not many. Arlen Vanke held about a dozen records at a time. After a back to back record run. The car is taken apart by NHRA to ensure no cheating. Then returned. It was a pain to do.

Mid twelve's sounds right for the first year or so while he had the car. He then installed some M/T Super Scavengers's and was consistently running 12teens.

the rules are very strict. proper blue printing. mine was GM backed at dealership used gulf research L88 cam 11.25's spinning hard.
did it have roll bar system? what was his suspension set up? it was hard to get 4 speed that fast also. that shifter sucked. street clutch slips allot. and the muncie is not know for long life at launch. most guys ran 833 4 speed crash box

I don't believe it had a roll bar. As far as suspension goes I think stock springs and boxed arms, airbags inside the springs, 90/10 drag shocks(unsure of brand), and 7inch slicks for tires(unsure of brand as well). He had issues with the original engine to the car. Long story short within the first few weeks of having the car the dealership tech took the solid lifters to zero lash(thought they were hydraulic and argued with the owner{who knew how to set them} about the differences). Once the engine was trashed the owner got on the phone with some GM big-wigs, got a blueprinted 396/375HP. I believe the car's nick-name was 'king rat'.
