I'm doing a ground up restoration on my Canadian Built 1968SS Chevelle. However I want to make completely sure that I do the car correctly when it comes to my original options eg.

(Z49) Mandatory Canadian Base Equip Modifications - What did this include?
(D55) Frt Compartment Floor Console - I believe this has a clock installed on the console - Can anyone confirm?
(U73) Manual Antenna - Was this located in the REAR of the vehicle (passanger side)?

Thanks for replying....

I'm not exactly sure what "Z49 - Mandatory Canadian Base Equip Modifications" consisted of back then, but it may have been a grouping of items including stuff like increased coolant protection and associated underhood labeling, an appropriate "oil change recommendation" label on the right inner fender, plus a Canadian edition owner's manual, warranty book and POP all contained in a vinyl pouch in the glove compartment. It may have also been an official recognition of the D.O.T. standards in effect in the day. As I recall they were not as stringent as the U.S. standards but the cars would have been U.S. compliant anyway. Back in those days it was nothing to import a car from any British Commonwealth country. I remember a 1970 British Ford Zodiac in town with tri-coloured taillights, a British Commer van, plus the Renault 12 came with rectangular quartz halogen Cibie headlights (illegal in U.S. at the time). A friend's parents imported a Peugeot 404 wagon straight from Europe without any hassles.

BTW, the oil change decal shown in the link is a genuine '68 GM Canada piece. I don't know of anyone reproducing it. All that is left of mine is the glue residue. Maybe if I can clean up the image or find a better source for one I could get some decals made.

D55 is the floor console, it does not have a clock. The clock is in the right side instrument carrier on the dash.

U73 is the manual rear antenna mounted on the right rear fender.

Buy an assembly manual for your car to help with the restoration. They are available from most catalog suppliers.:)
