I'll get a picture this weekend and post it. Does anyone know how to link the yahoo photos to here? I guess I have a little more car than computer know-how.

Alright, my dash is on the friendpages site. I'll throw some more pics on there this weekend.

Years ago I had a girl frend who KNEW cars. Chrysler / Plymouth had a 5 yr warrenty & had a big poster showing all the parts on warrenty. she used to bait the salseman asking them to name the parts. then she would correct them.

You know, I don't, by any stretch of imagination, know enough about cars to say, overhaul an engine, but I do know what I want or need when it comes to them. I am just a little annoyed with getting treated like an idiot. That's why I like to buy online..no one knows I'm a woman so I get treated okay. One time on Ebay, I called the people I was having trouble with, so they left negative feedback thinking I had my "girlfriend" call them with the problem.. :D

Hi Marci, welcome back.Back on going to work.Looks like on dash someone had tried to put some patch over the crack with somekind of glue. They maybe had put that plastic dash panel or the carpet panel on it at one time.Just dashes,is in your state and does good retoration stuff. And more pics.

At most part houses anymore, they don't have a clue unless they have their computer in front of them. There are a few of the "old guys" hanging around and know exactly what you're talking about with old cars. The young guys are all up on the late model Camaro,Firebird and ricer stuff though :D I know, I know, I'm just an old fart, but Dean, are you old enuff to be my grampaw? :D

I dunno Marci, that dash pad looks pretty cooked to me. The cost it would take to ship it to a refurbishing shop and have them fix it might be more than ordering a new dash pad and some dye (if you want to keep the blue interior, it's probably going to be black.).

JMO.

One of the sharpest GM parts people I know is a woman in the parts dept. of a local Chevy dealership. I'm old enough to be Dean's grampa, well brother, and an old hot rodder but she's forgotten more about GM muscle car parts than I've probably learned. And I was a parts man for 3 year while in school when these cars were new. She also knows the problems with installing most of them. She's well known by many of the mechanics in this area for her acumen.

Welcome Marci. We'll all try to help you with equal respect (and sarcasm on occasion). ;)

The fact you are interested and trying is the only qualification needed with me.

First Welcome Aboard...
Second.. Most if not ALL (there are exceptions to any rule) guy's or Gal's at you local Auto Parts stores Ability's excel in DATA entry
PERIOD.. if they can't enter all the blanks into the screen. They respond with " that parts not available " it's not you Marcie.. it's the system..

Repeat after me:

"Overhaul an engine."
"Overhaul an engine."
"Overhaul an engine."
"Overhaul an engine."

Welcome!

Remember also that 1/2 the time the goofs on the other end of the phone don't know anything either. If they can't find it in their computer ("Duh, I can't find a listing for a fan clutch for your car.") they're useless...

Don't sweat it , Most of these moron's that work there are HS dropout's, that think there doing you a favor buy selling you a part, and they have no idea what it does. Believe me it's not that your of the female gender. It happens to ALL of us.

What difference does it make if my car had A/C when asking for a gas cap?????? But they gotta know

So Marci, dash is probably cooked. Get a new one. On to more important things. Let's see a pic of you standing in front of the car. Wear something nice. Normally cars take on the personality of their owners. We need to see if that car is right for you. You deserve the best.

I suggest trying the local Napa store, they have parts that fit old cars, mostly drivetrain related, but there are Vintage wiper blades available there that are silver for older cars. They will most likely have to order them for you.

They have to input certain information to get to the proper screen.

me - "I need front brake pads"
them - "what size are the rear brake shoes?"
me - "I have no idea, I'm not working on the rear brakes"
them - "I can't look up the front pads unless I know what size the rear brake shoes are"
me - "are you telling me I have to go back and pull a rear drum to get FRONT pads?"
:D

</font>[/QUOTE]I agree Dean. Most of the guys behind the counter are young guys trying to help. The 'puter just prompts them along. It's a lot better to try and help them than to be a smug know it all.
