I have a 66 SS convertable bought at a action in 78 so no history of the car. is thers some place to start looking for its history and documentation. I have check the car over for the numbers and most of them match engine, trans, rear, vin. ect. So what do you think the difference in price would be for this car with and with out (Documentation)

I've found build sheets under the passenger bucket seat (75 Nova) and sandwiched between the fuel tank and trunk floor (77 Nova)

I have looked in the spots like under the gas tank, under and in seats, ect. the only thing I have found is a paper found under front seat and in very poor condution can't bearley read it. Also a news paper from Bulitmore 2nd week for june same as build date. I guess I will look some more

One 66 owner found the sheet between the fender and body or fender and splash panel (forget which) but it was unreadable.

Actually, on a 66 SS it's easy to identify whether it's a SS or not by the VIN. Verifying whether a Chevelle is a SS or not is usually the bone of contention about documentation. A build sheet or POP is nice as it also includes the trans type/date and rear end type/date, but I don't think too many would worry as long as the VIN indicates a SS - expecially a convertible.

I think what Dale said makes sense too...

What engine does your car have? 325 HP, 360 HP, 375 HP?

I think documentation is nice, but if the original engine is a 325 HP, then less important (IMO).

Documentation is always nice, but its moree important for "Proving" the cars heritage (SS or clone, 360 HP, etc...)... The more rare the options, the more desirable the documentation will be...

With the 66, the VIN proves its an SS, and if the car has mostly standard equipment (and mainly the engine), then if probably will not make too much difference.

I think the "big dogs" will not only want documentation, but they will want a car thats fully done, at least for maximum dollar value... If the car is not really nice condition, then the documentation isn't worth as much...

Of course, its also worth more to some people than others, and some buyers might only be looking for documented cars...

I was thinking that maybe the car was from Fremont (because of your location). But you mentioned Baltimore... I think Fremont cars rarely had the builtsheet...

Where are you (Sacramento area)? I live in Elk Grove and have a few 66 Chevelles...

Minimal at best. Unless the deck stamp or trans VIN stamp looks fishy.. the docs. wouldn't provide much more in terms of authenicating the car.. ( talking about a 66 SS )

These cars are getting very expensive and I say it all the time.. QUALITY is where the money is.. if you have three build sheets and POP but a junk needing a full resto., I wouldn't care about the paper work... but give me a quality restored car and no paper, I will pay what the fair market is and then some... building a car is very expensive ie.. full restos., so the focus has to be on a QUALITY BUILT car... even over numbers matching IMO. I'll pay more for a correctly restored 66 SS that is non numbers before ever paying for a numbers 66 SS that is mediocore.

If your car is Matching numbers as you say, and a nicely done car.. getting or finding any docs or hx. will not add to it... UNLESS maybe it was an L-78... ;)

Enjoy

Also, a lot depends on the individual and their approach to the hobby. There will always be people who want a truckload of documentation and others who couldn't care less as long as the car is what they want.

Agree with Mike on one point (man, that's scary) - quality, QUALITY, QUALITY. People have the bucks these days and just want a car that "turns their crank". However, documentation would come into play in determining the final value in the majority of cases.

I don't lose any sleep over lack of documentation on my ride. The car is what I want and I'm happy with it, that's all that really matters in the end. I just want to enjoy it and have some fun with it.

Dale the numbers on the block match the vin. here is whats on the trim tag. st 06B 766 TR 66-13867 Bal 2531 797 A1- L78 What Dale said makes sence to me to. the engine is a 325hp EDH engine code, no power options other than the power top. no tac,no power seats,no power windows, the only real power is to the rear wheels! I,m not tring to get doc. to resale MY Chevelle I just want to learn more about the car. I just moved to Granite Bay last year. I used to live on Florin just north of Watt for 10 years.
