I want to put coilovers and new tubular control arms on my 68' Chevelle. Supercharged BB car.

I also want to cut out some of the frame as to fit wider wheels on.

Going for a pretty nice pro touring set up.

Any advice or tried and true packages??

Thanks a bunch

I'll be adding new wheels 20x9 in the front 20x11 or wider in the rear. Crappy picture I uploaded.. but that's her!

I have been doing extensive research for my 69 lsx powered car that has c5 brakes and I'm sold on the ridetech coilover system. Uses tall balljoint 2" drop spindles I can retain my c5 brakes up front, and a unique lower arm that mounts the coilover lower to allow a longer travel our cars don't benefit from. Global west makes brackets to cut out the upper perch to runs longer mount, but I like ridetech's design. Rear setup uses the rear shock mount and has Bracketry to strengthen the lower mount, and reinforcements for the upper mount.

honestly, if you want coilovers, save up until you can buy a custom built chassis that is designed for coilovers. Otherwise, I'd just go with suspension components that correct the bad geometry but bolt up to the stock locations.

Custom frame is in the $10-15k range isn't it? Would the ride be $9-14k better? But yeah, that would be the most ideal choice. That aside, Ridetech makes nice stuff; their musclebar combined with ats spindles are like jewelry for the front end (jewelry nobody will ever see though). Not sure if MCB carries it but I'd buy it there if they do

Thank you guys. Yes RideTech is exactly what I've been looking at. What is MCB? I only need coilovers and spindles. I have Hotchkis everywhere else.

And unfortunately doing a frame off project isn't in the budget at the time.

The new Global West front coilover setup looks really good. ABC Performance makes a mini tub kit for narrowing the frame, etc. as far as the rear goes, I'd stick with GW.

Matts classic bowties. With ridetech's coilovers you'll need their lower arms.
That's not true. With the Ridetech kit, you can specify a lower mount that will work with the GW control arms.

I too am impressed with the Ridetech kit!

The other option is an extended travel coilover kit. This allows the use of a "real" coilover because it provides the right type of mount. Global West and Speedtech both make these kits.

Thank you for pointing that out to me, did not know that. Would it seem the design of their lca would get you a longer spring to more or less create the same thing the gw brackets do?

The major advantage of the GW brackets is that they allow you to use a true coilover. The top of the spring rests on the body of the coilover rather than sitting in the spring pocket like any of the other "kits" require.

I really like the looks of the Speedtech kit, but it came out after I had bought the GW kit

That's what's referred to as a "double sheer" style mount, correct? I was all tossed up myself between the chicane and the global west mounts. Still undecided, got other fish to fry with my toasted 4l60e/misc winter makeover projects.

Did anyone do the front frame mods to do a true front coilover?? I am on the fence about doing this mod when re-working the front suspension. If so, what did you finally decide to go with?? Brackets?? Coil over brand?? Length??

Our front coilover is a true coilover, but we utilize the factory upper stud top mount. The coil spring is retained by an upper spring hat as opposed to using the upper spring pocket.
You can use GW arms as long as they are designed for a coilover. I shy away from using a control arm designed for a coil spring because in some cases the shock mount on those style of arms is not designed to be a load supporting mount. We can definitely get you set up with a coilover with whom ever arm you have. I dont care if it is my arm or GW or who ever. Feel free to let me know what questions you might have weather its with my suspension or someone else.

I did the GW front coil-over too as it was the only option at the time.
