which direction does it go in the line? there is a metal half and a plastic half. one way if you suck air thru it it is wide open, the other way it is restricted a little. you really have to stomp on it to get the thing to open. i also need one of the plastic "U" clips that are the hinge for the inside flapper door. anyone have a spare?
thanks, dick

The port of the check valve which is hard to suck on, goes toward the engine.
Most, if not all the aftermarket Chevelle sources sell CI parts, either separately or in pairs, etc. You probably will have to buy a pkg of 3 clips.

tom thanks! i looked in the catalog and found the package of 3 clips. i figured i would have to buy the whole assembly but i guess they are a part that falls off. isnt the purpose of that valve to be a delay on the door opening, so it wont slam open or closed? so if the side thats hard to pull vac thru towards the enging would make it even harder to get it to open? as i said you really have to stomp on the gas to get it to pop up. i know its only for looks but it doesnt work right.
thanks, dick

Dick,
The purpose of the check valve is to allow the door to open quickly under hard acceleration (with a load on the engine) and then close slowly. If you try to get the door to open just by hitting the gas while the car is parked or in neutral, it won't open much. But, if the car is in gear (especially with a 4sp) and you accelerate, the the door opens quite well. If your car has an auto tranny, and you accelerate hard, the tranny downshifts rather than staying in third gear, thus, your vacuum stays high and keeps the door closed. Unless you have somekind of shift kit which keeps an auto tranny in whichever gear is selected, it is always going to downshift into a lower gear under moderate acceleration. But with a 4sp, it will remain in 4th gear at any speed which causes manifold vacuum to drop to nearly zero under hard acceleration. I have also noticed that there is a distinct difference in the amount of vacuum flow between different repo check valves. I drove Andy's 70 454 at Chevellabration 03, and it required very little acceleration to pop open the door.

tom, they make 2 valves. one is just a hollow dummy shell for the correct look. the other actually has a diaphram and valve in it. thanks for the info. i only tried it sitting in the garage in park, so will get to check it out on the way to work today
regards dick
