Since I have Friday off this week, I plan on going to the junk-yard looking for parts for my cars.

What cars should I look at that would have the following parts that interchange?

66 El Camino

Front Disc-Brakes
Front Sway Bar
Rear Sway Bar
Rear-End
Fan Shroud
Bucket Seats
Center Console
Steering Column

69 Malibu
Rear Sway-Bar
Rear-end
Boxed Rear Control Arms

I may think of a few other things later...

66 El Camino

Front Disc-Brakes
any 69-72 A-body car
Front Sway Bar
I've heard Trans-Am/Camaro will work
Rear Sway Bar
?
Rear-End
64-66 Chevelle are the same width and use the same spring pads. 67 is the same width but use a different spring pad. 68-> are about 1.5"-2" wider and use 67-> spring pads
Fan Shroud
?
Bucket Seats
whatever suits your fancy and you can make fit - I used a set from a Grand Am
Center Console
66/67 are the same for an automatic but I think the 4-speeds are different
Steering Column
67 column is different but 64-66 may be the same if you don't want to ~make~ one fit. Otherwise, I'd go for a late model tilt-wheel setup.

69 Malibu
Rear Sway-Bar
Rear-end
Boxed Rear Control Arms

not up on 69 models

I may think of a few other things later...

Where are you going that would have a junkyard with A) older cars and B older cars with even the slightest chance that they still have a console!?

Seriously, I'll be in MN friday in Trimont. I wanna go!

Any 66 GM bucket would be the same I think. 67 has the flip button on the side. If you find a 73 and up with a rear sway bar, don't get too excited because I've always been told they are too wide for pre 72. The boxed arms MIGHT work, but I'm not sure.

A 67 column won't fit in a 66 dash (but a 66 column will fit in a 67 dash with lots of extra room)

Chad, The first one I'm going to is in Austin, MN. They have a lot of 60s stuff, but most of the goodies are picked over.

The second one I might go to is near Albert Lea, and I've never been there, but it's mostly 50s and older. Nothing there is picked over much because the old guy that owns it only lets people in on the rare occasion that he's in a good mood. I'll do a fair amount of sucking-up to get in that one.

BTW, I'd like factory '66 style buckets because I want to keep the interior looking stock. My Elky has a tilt column in it, but everything is loose and worn out. It's also column-shift.

The 69 stuff should be pretty easy to find. Any 68-72 GM A body car will work for the rear end.Now the BOP stuff is a little different for the rear ends, but other than that you are fine. The boxed arms and rear swaybar will also work from any GM A-body, BOP or not it doesn't matter.

Look for the under dash courtesy light out of some GM luxury models..lighted footwells is a cool thing

..impresses the Ladies too

All the 442's/Cutlasses and Buick GS's I've owed came with thse standard..now all my Chevelles have 'em too.
Remote trunk release is another good one.Look for mid 70's Cutlass' with the 4 spoke sport sterring wheel and 15" Buick 5 spoke chrome rallys that look like the 14" Chevelle SS rims..add a trim ring and an SS center cap, those Buick rims start looking good, and their 15" too.Probably not much of that stuff left theses days (except for the courtesy lights) but still worth looking for.

Thats why they made die grinders to get rid of the shifter on the column "nub" and bondo to fill it in! Works mint too-been there done that

And,pull the wheel and tighten those 3 bolts in that 'ole "loose" tilt column-then it won't be so loose no more.

Austin is about 90mi +/- from Trimont, and Albert Lea is 70-75mi. There aren't many good parts left, but it's still a lot of fun to look. You're welcome to cruise over if you'd like and I'll show you the local yards. Just get on I-90 and head East.

Too bad it's not next weekend. I have to visit the in-laws in Owattona and this would be a perfect excuse to disappear for awhile. Ohh well, there always is Cabella's
