Will 2.73 gears work with a muncie. Car is a 70' el camino. I am looking for an everyday driver. Will I burn up the clutch with these wimpy gears? I have the 2.73 rear from my old chevelle and i know it worked fine with my turbo 350.

Right now the car turns 3,200 rpms at 60 mph. Kind of annoying. Plus i think the existing rear end is causing a vibration.

If it is an M-20 it will work. I wouldn't do any clutch dumping hole-shots with that setup, but if you want a daily driver and low highway RPM's then it will work for you.

A wide ratio M20 trans would work with 2.73 gears. However, a little more rear gear would work better. I used to have a Camaro with 2.56 gears and an M20 with 23" tall tires, it would go through a clutch about once a year. Also putting a taller tire on the car can effect gearing quite a bit, this might be a better solution.

I ran a 2.79 gear with the M20 wide box and 26" tires for quite a few years. You really do need the lower 1st gear to get a Chevelle moving

A M21 or M22 might cause excessive clutch chatter when taking off.

I went through two heavy-duty Zoom clutches in 3 years before going back to a "standard" 11" bent-finger unit. Just not enough multiplication for the heavier clutches. Sure was nice on the highway though!
