At the Texas Motorplex, anyway. First of all, it rained all day Saturday which is no fault of the staff or track. Half of the vendors showed up. The food & drink was one single booth for hamburgers, one corn on the cob and one lemonaide stand. ( I knew none of this until I later went inside)
The show section was 1/4 to 1/3 of what is usually is, maybe 40 cars. The swap meet was non-existant and the car corral had 4 cars. The stands for racing was loaded with about 40 people.
Plenty of racers though.
I showed up in my 66 convertible late in the day due to problems at home, I left late. When I got there, the show judging was finishing. They wouldn't let me on the gounds for anything less than full show admission. $75 for me & passengers.
There was Sooooo much space on the tarmac it was rediculous. I offered $40 to just park on the asphalt. NO WAY! They even yelled at me and I was nothing but pleasant and smiling.
Well, we had driven over a 100 miles to here so we looked for a place to park. The ONLY place they would let me park was a mud-drenched field. There were cars/trucks stuck everywhere. Standing water and thick gooey mud. Even the parking attendants thought it was rediculous how it was all set up. It was 3 in the afternooon and there must have been room for 3,000 parking spaces on the pavement, yet they wouldn't let anyone park there. I took a big chance and parked my 66 along the roadway. We had to at least use a porta-potty, eat a $5.00 crappy hamburger and see something shiny. It was $22 a person to get in. Once inside and experiencing the dissapointment, I knew then and there that they were soaking everybody for their last nickel to make up for thier appearant losses. So in the end, I spent $57.50 plus 21.50 for gas. That totals $79 to view all of this, the smallest little Chevy Show in Texas. I've been to better cruise nights for nothing. Plus I had to clean MUD off of my car when I got home. Sad sad sad.
