Hello,

I just installed the MSD EFI Atomic and thought it might be interesting for some of you guys.

I decided to use the return system since Oklahoma is some times hotter than 85F.
Also I did not want to pressure up my tank, or drill holes in my tank lid to vent it, or hear the pump noise all the time. That's why I decided to go for a in- tank pump with a vent port.
Unfortunately I could not find a ready EFI tank, so I used the conversion kit (PU4) from TANKSINC. It requires to cut a hole in your tank and install the pump in it. This was the most tricky part of the conversion. It also requires to bend a bit the sheet metal over the tank to fit the pump ports.

Then I ran two new fuel lines. I did not use the original fuel line since I did not want to risk having any dirt or rust in the EFI system.

The actual installation of the Atomic is really simple and can be done in one afternoon while drinking some beer.
One mistake cost me some headache though. I connected the control power wire of the MSD to a contact on my fuse box which had no power during craning!
This causes the car to fire up randomly when cold but not at all when warm. So check always if the Atomic display has power when cranking.
MSD support was very helpful and easy to get on the phone.

The performance is great!!! It feels like having a new engine with some HP more.

Cheers Bobby

Thanks for sharing.

I plan on doing this conversion next year. The Atomic feedback is always positive and inspires confidence to install this system.

I do not believe that I will get any much better MPG, maybe 1 or 2 more. The main reason is that I have had already classic cars with a TBI or real EFI and they just Idle and run perfect, they always start no mater if cold or wet or warm...they are not smelling gas. I know you can do all that with a carb but it needs more effort. BTW it is a 396 with a mild cam and 427 heads.

Some updates

B]MSD EFI[/B]--> Works in general good. Need to crank a few times when the motor is warm. Other than that very good. Would electronic timing help with this issue?

Tank the self build EFI tank was leaking. Tanks inc meanwhile offers a ready EFI tank for the 66 Chevelle. Downside it has higher than the original one so that it sticks out under the rear bumper. Does not look so good. I've painted black and now it is not so obvious any more.

cheers
