My Father has to give up his 1994 Impala SS that he has had since new. It's been his company car, the car has 140,000+ miles on it and is in very good condition. His company is forcing him to turn it in. His new Impala was delivered yesterday. He loves his 94 and doesn't want to part with it, he asked his company what they want for it. They said $4200. My Father offered $1000, and they said no. The only reason he is hesitent, is that everything (alternator, water pump, compressor, etc..) is original except for the transmission and radiator. And it needs tires.

What do you think a fair price for this is. If you know the car the only option was CD player. It's got it.

Try kellybluebook.com Not sure exactly of the web page designation but I think that is it. You can do a search on your browser to find the exact web page. When you get there, you can plug in the numbers asked and it will give you the value if you are buyung from a private owner or from a dealer. It may be not 100% accurate but it gives you a pretty good idea of worth/value.

Using "good" (vs excellent) condition and a wisconsin zip code, I came up with a Kelly retail value of $9,245.

I often see them for outragious prices in the paper, but then I don't know if they sell.

For $4200, I'd grab it

Bring it to California and rip someone off like all the guys out here that sell 95's and 96's for 19.5k and up. Sawe one in the paper the other day. 95 Impala SS, 83,000 miles, all original, asking 24k......werent they 25 when they were brand spanking new, 0 miles?

My buddy is selling blue one, 95 with 63,000 miles, headers, chip, exhaust, police lights, intake, new tires on original rims for 19k.

If'n I can sell it out here for say, 18k, can I keep the difference?

Regardless of what the Kelly Blue Book says, these cars still bring good prices because of the enthusiast value to them. Here in California, bone stock Impala SS's priced around the $15k range go rather quickly. A club mamber of mine just put his moderately modified Impala with 50,000 miles up for $25k. He'll probably get something like $20 when he's done. I currently see the police Caprice versions with the LT1 motors going for $4500. So in my opinion your dad is getting a steal. There were only a little more than 6000 Impala SS's produced in 1994. There is a big market for these cars and it's supply and demand. Check out some of the Impala SS forums and see what they are going for. Try Impala SS Forum

Ya, probably one of the best investments someone could have made with buying a new car other then an exotic. Buy a 96 with 0 miles on it for $24K, put 50,000 miles on it and turn around and sell it for the exact same price!! the 96's are fetching more since there the only one's with the shifter on the consule and its the last year so more disirable. When I was looking for one, the 94-95 were $14,000-19,000 depending miles etc...

Im figuring the Impala SS and 87 Buick GNX are the only two late model cars I can think of that held their value if not increased with time......You would think GM would take into account that the quick, rear wheel cars are desireable. Well, add affordable to that list as my pockets will not allow for a Z06.

Anyone else think of another late model car that held its value or increased with time?

If I could score a '94 Impala SS for $4,200 I'm there. That's a steal and a half. Your Dad's been driving it since new so he knows the history on it and what kind of abuse (or lack of) that's been put on it.

I have a '94 Impala SS and bought it for $16k at a dealer here in Santa Clara, Ca. (it had 124,000 miles on it). Was I Stupid?..maybe, but I don't think so. Thing runs like new and is clean. Most of the price guides out there don't take into account that these cars fetch top dollar because they are in demand and people are willing to pay.

Like eveyone is saying these cars hold value unlike nearly all late-model cars. Most 'Vettes don't hold their value (sans ZR-1 and Z06) as well as the Impala. You could easliy make a $10k profit on it right now. Last great full-size car IMO.
