Well my trunk isn't in that great of shape and eventually i am going to re do it but i have a coupe of questions that i've been bouncing around my head and wanted to run them past you guys.

I know that i can fit a 15x10 in the fender wells but would it make sense to mini tub the car so i have the extra room incase i need it? The motor is only going to be making about 400 hp 425 at max so i dont think ill need it but if im going to redo it should it be done anyway?

Secondly i plan on covering the trunk with a rug if ive never welded before is this one of those trial and error things or should i let a proffesional handle it? I have a welder (not sure what kind but i think i will hanle the trunk metal).

Do i need more than a 15 x 10? IT IS A STREET CAR not daily driven but will be on the street. I thought i would be good to have at the track if i needed it. I plan on keeping this car for a while should i just do it stock and do it if i need it or do it the first time around and not use it until i need it?

Any help would be great guys thanks…

ditto to randy. do you have a mig or a stick welder? Practice on some similar thickness metal after reading some books and maybe some videos and a class. Dont try to stick weld sheet metal.

Just about any street tire you put under there will spin anyway. A couple more inches won't make much difference, so why tub it?
If you run some BFG Drag radials on the street, you won't need more than 10" and it will fit in your stock wheel well. Just be sure to use a 5.5 inch back spacing on the wheel. Warning, you cannot run drag radials in the rain or wet pavement.

I have a 70 conv and run 15x8 Corvette Ralley wheels, SMALL center caps (67 style) with 23560s. It also has a 406, M-20 and 3.07 12bolt posi. This makes an EXCELLENT combo for the street. I have the original, stock jack in the stock position in the trunk and the spare is mounted on a 15x7 Ralley. In the beginning, the sidewall would ocassionally touch the outer fender well. Since my car has wheel opening moldings, I used a die grinder/small cutoff wheel to trim the lips back even with the moulding (I removed the moldings first). This makes a perfect fit and the stance looks good.
After I got all of this done, I emptied the trunk, THOROUGHLY cleaned it and used the trunk spatter paint to paint it. THIS DOES A WORLD OF GOOD TO ENHANCE THE INTERIOR APPEARANCE of the trunk. After painting with the spatter paint, it is necessary to coat the spatter paint with a GOOD clear. YOU CAN'T USE TOO MUCH CLEAR TO COAT IT. I finished off the trunk with a repo trunk mat. LOOKS GREAT! Of course, if you prefer carpet, that would also look great.

mini tubing will be verry exspensive and hard also its just not the tubs you have to do you have to notch the frame if your going anything past 10 inches. id know ive got them. and the frame is right there so is your shocks. its gonna be a job. narrowing your rear end. tubing the car (verry difficult from what i hear) you might loose your back seat in a 70 if you do that too becasue your arm in the back is basicly resting on thoes stock wheel wells, and moving all your shock locations on your rear end and notching the frame. sure it will look awesome and if its what you want no doubt get it because your just going ot want it later. (thats where im at
