I should have done a walk around at CB to check this but didn't.

I believe these pieces are aluminum and the inside around the headlights are painted black. Should the outside sections be a shiny or dull finish? Mine are dull and I am wondering if I need to take them out and buff them up.

Thanks in advance.

Don, the unrestored 69 (blue one like yours) headlight bezels were shiny aluminum. The inside of the bezel is satin black. Not flat black or gloss black. Satin has a little more shine than flat but not as much as gloss. When I got my car I believe the bezels were shiny but I had to repaint the inner part. If you'll look real close you can see the little line in the bezel where the black is suppose to start.

I think Jody's correct. The black was completely gone from mine and the aluminum was badly oxidized. A little polishing and semi-gloss paint was in order. Here is a photo.

Don,

Keep track of which one goes where. They all look similar, but there are differences! I believe the originals have markings on the back side for 'ro', 'ri', 'li', and 'lo'. Not sure if the repops have it or not.

The markings for location is on the very bottom on mine. Believe me, they won't fit right any other way.

The inside finish should be satin like the filler behind the bumper and the grille. They are bright metal and can be redone in a shop, kind of pricey. They are marked at the bottom. The inners can be put on in the wrong position but it shows real quick (does this sound like experience to you Jody? I screw up lots of stuff). They look the wrong way. I've got a couple originals in my garage but they are not nearly good enough for your car Don.

Thanks for the additional responses gang. Just by looking at them it was apparent they are not interchangeable and yes, make sure I keep track of their positioning.

Thomas - very valid point pal. I was going to take them to a friend experienced in these matters regarding anodizing. I've done a lot of buffing but never attempted to remove anodization. We'll see what develops.
