Has anyone ever sent thier original radio out to one of these places that refurbishes them with modern internals. Am to am/fm conversion, etc. How do they perform, was it worth the cost involved. I like the idea of a stock appearing radio with the performance of a modern unit. Thanks

There are several guys who eather sell "look alike" radios or convert existing radios to AM FM Stereo. I am currently considering having one converted. Mike Hagan in Penn. does a circuit board swap, he does not make the board, he gets it elsewhere and I think at least one other guy uses the same board for conversions. Talked to Mike a week or so ago and he seemed like a straight shooter. He does however have a huge backlog...months not weeks according to my conversation with him.

I have had Greg at SM Electro-Tech restore several radios for me. He will also do the AM/FM stereo conversions on original radios. His work is first class and I would not hesitate to recommend his services.

How was Turnswitch on turn around and did they make their estimated dates?

I think that Turnswitch uses the same circuit board that comes with radios that Mike Hagan does. Reading the description of the way the radios work when tuning, adjusting fade and bass and balance it seems that the operation is the same as the radios that Mike Hagan does. This leads me to believe (though I am not 100% sure) that the same circuit board is in both radios after conversion by Turnswitch or Hagan.

I spoke to the folks who build NEW radios from scratch..can't recall the name now. They no longer do conversions..they have customers who buy their boards and do the conversions for the end user. Mike Hagan is on of those guys who does the conversions. I got Mikes name from the guys who do the new "from scratch" radios. I assume Mike is not the only guy who buys the boards and does the work. I was told that Mike does the "largest number of conversions" by the folks who supply the boards to Mike.
