I was wondering if L-34 have 2 or 4-bolt mains and if the block had Hi Perf PASS stamped beside the oil filter and under the timing cover on the right side of the cam bearing if that means its a L-34.

Thanks

I believe to have a L-34 in mine and today tore the engine down for a overhaul and it had 2 bolt mains and Hi Perf PASS casted on it. I am pretty sure it is a L-34 because of the steel crank and not cast iron.

Yes the L-34 and the LS-5 do have Hi-perf cast into them. The parts books also consider them to be Hi-perf engines.
The L-72,L-78,L88,LT-1,Z-16,ZL-1 and LS-6 are considered "Special Hi-perf in the parts books.I believe my head has Sp/Hi-perf cast into it,as well as my 4 bolt main block.

The block will have Hi Perf pass cast on to it but the heads WILL NOT.Your heads will only have Pass(passenger) stamped on them referring to regular oval port design. All rectangular large port heads have Hi-Perf cast on to them NOT Spec.Hi-Perf.There was No Sp/hi-perf markings on any 4-bolt "special high performance" motor either. Both 2 and 4 bolt blocks were stamped Hi-perf

I was pretty sure that a '70 chevelle 396 L34 engine had a forged crank, not steel, that was up until a couple of minutes ago...and the L78 and LS6 were steel and not cast. I'm not sure about the LS5...

Thats right.I knew there was a difference between what was on the block vs. what was on the heads.I stand corrected.
