Spent the weekend working on my convertible after sitting in pieces for nearly 4 years. We made a lot of progress but still a ways to go. But, it feels so good to see it coming together. Special thanks to TC members sparky1698 (Jon), 70cko4sp (Jim), and 8WOB427 (Bill) for all their hard work.

Thanks guys. We're continuing to make progress. The dash should be going back into the car this weekend and hopefully the exhaust can go on too. Work also continues under the hood. I'm waiting on parts shipments from about 6 different vendors but I'm close to having all the "nickel and dime" stuff that is needed to wrap her up.

Today, the dash went back in now that the heater core has been replaced and all the firewall insulation has been replaced and the defroster vent has been repaired.. We also worked under the hood and got the intermediate shaft installed, the carb on and several misc things completed. Still waiting on parts (that seems to be the story of my life lately). And I had to waste time trying to "tweak" ill fitting reproduction parts. A couple of these vendors are going to be getting some feedback!

Under the hood is nearly done. Battery cables finally arrived yesterday so passenger side exhaust can now go on. Drivers side exhaust is installed. I'm waiting on a couple pieces of the TCS system to arrive then the engine will be complete. Last big items left to do under the hood is to paint and install the new fenderwells.

The dash is back in the car along with new underhood and dash wiring. I bit the bullet yesterday and ordered new wiring for the rest of the car after seeing the condition of some of it. I decided it isn't worth taking a chance considering how much time and money I have invested thus far. Afterall, it is only money, right?!?!?

The interior is out and I'm working on a couple small repairs to the floor. All things considered, this convertible is in very good condition compared to many that I've seen!

Hopefully it will be ready to test fire the new engine this coming weekend. It feels good to finally be on the downhill side of this project!

Got the motor started today. It didn't go quite a planned. Turns out the shaft on the water pump is bent so the fan and fan pulley had a terrible wobble. I'm still kind of ticked since this was a fresh rebuild. We're assuming the core must have come from a wrecked car at some point to have that much of a bend (so it goes...one step forward, two steps back!). So, we got the engine started and dialed the timing-in, then shut if off. Engine break-in will have to wait for the water pump shaft to be replaced.

Photos from yesterday. We were able to break the motor in yesterday. While not all the details are 100% correct under the hood (plug wires, radiator cap, missing smog, etc.) it is getting closer. Those additional items will be added in the future as my budget allows.

feels good to start getting it back together doesn;t it?

Mine started coming together last year finally. I might have a few years left though since I can't get much time to work on it with the kids and all.

Looking good Dana
Makes me want to get out there and start on mine again.
X2 Can't wait to see it finished.

And get to it Dean!! We need more 70 convertibles done
