I found a car in Ohio that I was thinking about getting, but a friend of mine told me not to get it due to the salt use on the roads up there being bad on cars. Can anybody from up North or bought a car where salt is an issue the problems you had with your car when trying to restore it?

I live in Ohio. If the car you are looking to buy wasn't on the roads while salt was down then I wouldn't worry about it. My 72 doesn't show any additional corrosion due to salt. I tend to wait for the first couple of good rain showers before each maiden voyage every spring.

I live in the northeast, the salt capital of the world. My Chevelles have never seen snow/salt.......or rain for that matter. One is from southern California, and the other is from the southern Alabama. It doesn't matter where the car is now. All that matters is where the car was for the past 40 yrs.

You could also buy a car from Fla, that spent it's whole life in snowy Chicago until recently.

It has no windows, but the body looks good from the pictures. It has some rust in the windshield channel, but that's about it that I can think of. I plan on doing a soda media blast. Shouldn't I be able to find all rust that way?

I bought a car from Ohio and learned that if you can't see it in person, you shouldn't buy it. I only spent a year putting new quarters, drops, outer houses and trunk floor on a "slick" car that had new quarters! You might get lucky.

Where's the car at in Ohio? If it's near me I'll take a look at it for you. I'll never buy a car sight unseen. Even when sellers know you're coming to look at it they always "forget" to tell you something!

I just bought a Chevelle from Ohio and it turned out to be really nice. Of course it's been restored and it never sees the roads unles the sun is shining and roads are dry. I was very fortunate to have a friend from the Monte Carlo site that volunteered to go look at the car and gave me his opinion of it. There were a few little things but over all I'm pretty happy. Now I bought another one last year from Michigan and really got taken. The dealer there said that there would be no disappointments. Two days after I got it, it had to have a transmission overhauled. The dealer lied his A$$ off and told me that when it left it shifted right on the money. When we pulled that trans pan, the bottom was so black and the clutches were all burnt. Buyer beware.

If your friend has seen pictures that none of us have seen and said not to buy it...then maybe your friend right!
If you plan on your friend working/helping on a car he told you not to buy then you should pay attention to his advice!

Sure blasting it will help find all the problems then you could spend a year replacing metal like oktunes above mentioned.

If it got rusty channels its going to have rust in places the sun dont shine.

Cant believe nothing you hear and only half of what you can see!

Trust your buddy unless you at least have someone look at it!!!!

I would only be concerned about there being a cop stuffed in the trunk ready to pull you over the second you break the speed limit.
