I was looking at my original fender today and I noticed the clamp that holds the heater hose was a 3/8 wide steel bracket that is held on by two small Phillips self tapping screws. while by repro inner fender uses a bracket that clips into place. has anyone else seen this

Have never seen one that was held in by screws.
My car is a December 65 built Fremont 66 SS convertible.
Mine is like 1966droptop had described. It is original.

this was placed where the clip on stile would have been. there were no other holes there. I am 99% sure this inner fender is original to my car. it was decent shape with some patch work under the battery tray. the staples are still on the opening. also my car was built the second week of November 1965 in Balt:beers:

did you post the correct picture?

I thought you meant the hose keep on the pass fender.

That cap on the shown in the pic is also incorrect. Should just snap on. I think you have a theme going on in the car. Perhaps a previous owner was a fastener nut?

ha ha I get it

The clamp on the inner fender is different. I'll see if I can find a pic.

EDIT: this pic is good because the clamp fell out of the square hole so you can see it.

I have the current repro bracket on there now that clips on. What people say is correct. I would like to know about what I have. As my original inner fender has no holes for that clip on style

The square hole and the clamp that goes all the way around the hoses and pops into the square hole is correct, and was used from beginning of production on 1964 Chevelles all the way through the end of production on 1967 Chevelles. So the piece that your pic shows is something that someone made and put on the car, presumably because they broke or didn't have the original clamp. I can't explain why your inner fender has no square hole, other than to speculate that if you sanded the paint off you would find that the square hole was filled or welded shut at some point, probably at the same time as the repairs around the battery tray that you mentioned.
