I have a 1972 Chevelle SS, 454 and I am having problems with the brakes. I have replaced the master cylinder, brake booster, proportioning valve, brake hoses, and calipers. The problem I am haveing is after the car sits for a few hours, I loose my brake pedal, it goes to the floor, but after I have used the brakes a few times the pedal comes back to normal operation and remains so untill the car sits again. I also bleed the brakes and this did not seem to work. Any one have an idea what is wrong?

It sounds like you still have air in the lines. Make sure that the calipers are on correctly. They can fit on the car and still be on incorrectly. By that I mean the right side is on the right and the left side is on the left with the bleeders in the correct position. I know this from experience.

You did not specified if you have a disc/drum or disc/disc system.

If you have rear drums, first, I would make sure they are well adjusted and then I would check for leaks inside the w/c. Remove the dust booths: if there is fluid, they're leaking.

As for calipers, you might want to make sure you don't have «low drag» calipers.

I'm not convince these answers might be your problem, but it might stir up some ideas.
