Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

Seems like quite a few guys willing to pay $5000, but it's too far away. I'd offer it to these guys at $5500 and offer free delivery, that should move it today.

2 grand? Ill take 10 of them for that price all day long. In this part of the country thats 7-8K all day long. Providing the metal is good and not needing any major replacment. IMO, these cars get undervauled over certain things compared to the other years.

This is the only year Chevelle that allows you to get into the pre-64 street rod events and fit into the street machine and muscle car events as well. Something that ive always found cool about the 64's.

Pre-64, means 63 or older, just saying, but that's changing rapidly, our show, ( Wheel of Time Street Rod Assc.) which we have been having for over 30 years, was pre 49, but the last few years that has been moving up, Now we're doing a rolling 30, any customs 30 years and older are accepted, shows how the car scene is changing, The NSRA has been doing the rolling 30, threme for years, just to fill the shows.

Chris Not to beat down this car but did you even look at the pictures ???? The hood is bubbleing thru on the front, the rear upper filler is rusty, The rear DS quarter is oozing with old filler, as the door appears to be as well and that's just from pictures I again am not putting down the car but seriossly if you can get that kind of money I will send you a Tractor trailer full of them 8 to 10 depending on how we stack them to sell !!!!!

I am confused about a pre 64 show as I attend everything from sea to shineing sea and have never heard that ,

As for a real price someone needs to look at it as it has all of the tell tale signs of a little old lady car parked by sound (right front fender) poorly repaired at multiple times over the years and just a car at the time. No Dissrespect to the car, Owner or Family but I think you will find its a Whole lot worse in person !!! 64's are Cool but not as high up there on the Value list as other years and I am amazed at the Valuations made here in respect to how other cars are simply smashed to pieces for the most part. A real number is right where it has hit at $3500.00 and be prepared for quarter repair/replacemant, a hood , door work, I'm shure something at the bottom of the fronts the right front nose, and the floors?????. At the end of the day you have a 64 Malibu SS with a 230 6 and a Powerslide. You can buy a real nice one in the teens any day anywhere !!!!! The trim alone is expensive and it has to be a Love Affair to go nuts on it.

Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

I tend to agree. Everybody seems to be all excited, but that thing looks like a rust bucket. That spot on the side and on the rear deck appear to be rusted all the way through.
This is another "find" where it appears what you have is a nameplate with "SS" code on it.

As for the car show scene, 30 years is not that outrageous. Remember the Beach Boys song "Little Duece Coupe". Now, that was a real Hot Rod, right. They did the song in 62. Do the math.

I read you loud and clear Jim. I did look at the photos and took those into consideration. Given the issues, they still do alright when they come up for sale in this part of the rust belt though. They dont make a killing when they sell, but there are buyers out there that do buy these cars for sub 5K prices quite often. Last month a similiar condition wise, looking 67 El Camino sold in hours off craigslst for 3k from what most would consider was potentially priced too high.

Yes the 32 Duece is the signature hot rod, But I don't think we'll be hearing any songs about 82 Chevettes and 82 Hondas anytime soon. Just saying.

There was a time our 3 day show was pre-64 customs and street rods, in fact we just raise the allowable cars to own to become a member of our Street Rod club ( Wheels Of Time ) to pre-64 Customs, (was pre-49)they must be a custom. This was done to keep our membership up ( 100 plus ) Wheels Of Time, was started in 1977, and us originals are getting old.

Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

I'd love to have the car. Unfortunately, it's too far from me here in GA. My 64SS has the 283 4bbl and is my daily driver. Never given me 10 seconds trouble.
As far as value goes I'm not a good person to comment. $10,000 would not buy mine and it's probably only worth about 8 on the high end.
i like the unusual much more than raw power. I bet I see 4 dozen 68, 69 and 70 models for every single 64 I see. Besides, the pwr pac gives me more power than I'll ever use on the street and gets better than 20 mpg on the highway. You just can't beat them!

Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

Back in the 90's, many Clubs in the Houston area sort of informally recognizeD 1972 as the end of the muscle car era, so they catered to 72's and back. Very few even classed cars as "restored" and "custom restored', a nice car was a nice car.

Baytown Fine Rides had a show about a month ago, had quite a few cars, and everything from 1932 to the mid 2000's was represented.

Just for my own info, what is magic about pre 64. Is 64 sort of the beginning of the American Muscle car era? since that is when Pontiac decided to put those GTO emblems on that LeMans.

Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

It's now worth $7-$8 thou in Minn. Sell it to somebody up there and deliver it free. Another week or two and this car will be worth $10 thou! It just keeps going up.

Wasn't the GTO built off the Tempest platform?

Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

I know a GUY with a documented original 1966 elcamino ss that still has the numbers matching 427. He wants a chevelle and may consider a trade. Let me know if interested I'll run it by him. Nice car

Ain't now, nor was there ever such a thing as a '66 El Camino "SS", nor ANY '66 Chevrolet A-Body factory equipped with a 427, my friend. :noway:

Let's see the documentation.

Re: 1964 Malibu SS "Barn Find" Old Lady Car. What's it worth?

The Elcamino is gone. He donated it! :hurray: As the original owner told me that it was one of only three built. Two went to stock car tracks for track promotions and official track use. These were a special line that came off a very rare ordering option that was only offered to ceo's of large corporations. The Car had one bucket seat from the factory, the passenger side had a special package tray designed to hold helmet, etc. The tray had a GM part number on it and it matched the build sheet. The 427 was equipped with a holley carb, headers, and roller rockers from the factory. there was a special code for these items that only could be ordered through this corporate program. Don't stone me, I am only the messenger here. The car is gone and he plans to burn all the paper work. So no sense in sweating it.. Life is too short, enjoy your car. After all God has only loaned it too you.
Donated it to what? Burn the paperwork? :clonk:

It would be INSANE to burn the only way to prove that this fascinating fairy tale is true.
