It is if they advertise it for "X" amount and I go in and want it for that price. I don't understand why car dealers think it's okay to falsely advertise their product and then want to know why everyone hates them?
like I said if the dealer advertises the car at X then that should be the price.

Like Al Sharpton?

Better rethink that one.
Sharpton is a reverand. With no congregation, church or following....or education...or common sense....or grasp of what racism is....or what paying taxes means....and a show on MSNBC.

I digress....sorry, i'd pee on that dude if he were on fire but ONLY so I could light him on fire again and enjoy that initial burst of flames for a second time.

Now stop holding back and tell us how you really feel.....:D

You are wrong about the following.

He's got Black AND White creeps following him all over Florida

with that George Zimmerman thing going on.

I'm getting ready to go look at buying a new car and reading all of these horror stories is worrying me. Its been 9 years since I have bought a car from a dealership.

What is a good website to try to get some kind of value on my trade in. I've checked out KBB, Edmunds, Black Book and have got about $1,000 difference in them.

When I go to dealerships for vehicles I make it well known to the salesperson, they have one shot at giving me their best price. If their price isnt better than someone elses I go elsewhere. When they decide they can do a little better I tell them to stick it up their a**, they were told one shot at a best price. I wont haggle ever, give me your best price and see how you do. I dont shop for one of a kind vehicles, and I dont mind driving to go get my new vehicle.

In my contracting business I get one shot to give a potential customer my best price to wire their new building. If I go in too high, someone else gets it, thats just the way it goes. I treat everyone else the same way it works for me, dont waste my time expecting me to dink around with you to get the best price you are willing to sell for. Give me your best price up front and see if you get the sale.

When I bought my TBSS I called 17 dealers in under 2 hours time and asked them for their best price out the door for the TBSS I was looking at. Of the 17, 13 wanted to dick around and haggle with me, they immediately were told they no longer have a chance of making a sale. The 4 remaining each came in with varying prices and the one with the best out the door price got the sale. I had to drive 120 miles to get it. They had it ready when I got there to test drive it, checked it over and they were handed a check. The salesmen told me that was the easiest sale he has made in a long time. Thats the way it should be

Wow I never thought about that but you are so very right. When you build a house or hire a conractor it's strictly bids vs bids you don't haggle back and forth. The best price gets the job, but i have had my fill of car buying for many years just because of all of the above reasons already discussed.

If I remember correctly didn't Saturn have a policy where there was no dealing and you paid the price on the window sticker? That explains why they are out of business now....

Demote the salesmen to Associate/Test Driver/Product Informant. Let the customer deal directly with the Sales Manager on price. He seems to be the one who approvals all the car deals I've been involved in. Salesmen is just a road block and time waster.

Last car I bought, they presented their best deal (Sales Manager came out directly - usually they hide) straight away. The wait to get into finance was long and painful (one guy working that day). Should have come back next day to sign.

Since the system is what it is and doesn't seem that it will change anytime soon, I'm with Jeff (quikss). Give your best deal on round #1 and quit the B.S. four-squares back and forth crap. Unfortunately, car buying is a system setup for games to be played. Exceptions are out there. I'm cool with the dealer making money, just not MSRP kind of money :)

Ok, I'm going to be blunt now! And I'm really sorry if I offend anyone!

It does not matter what price anyone sends out the first time to you know it alls, because you won't be happy, you always want more. You are the 1% of all buyers who go to a dealer and act like complete, self absorbed, mental mind freaks, and you think that everyone there should kiss your butt! You are a legend in your own mind. Give me a break, a car deal, or any deal for the most part must benefit both the buyer and seller.

Now wrap this around your brain, the dealership makes money no matter what! It's the poor salesperson who suffers. They spend hours and hours with you, being nice, attending to your whims, and putting up with your crap! For what, to make a $100 mini if you buy?? No, then you get up, go up the street, and feed all the numbers the previous salesperson gave you to the next guy, maybe get a little more off, maybe not. And in 10 mins you buy! The hell with the guy who put up with your crap for hours and was sincerely nice to you! You tell me we play games! I don't know what you guys do for a living, but I'm sure you can do some simple math and figure out how many cars a salesperson has to sell, dealing with folks like you, to make a living. They don't work by the hour.

Some of you are the type of customer that will spend hours and hours trying to wring every penny out of a car deal, but fall right over at the furniture store, the carpet store, Doctor, Dentist, Attorney.... Oh yeah the parts store! Penny smart and dollar foolish. There are more important things to do with my time.

Anyone can be a car salesperson, not many are successful at it! Next time ask them how long they've been at that dealer. Hey, I"ve got a novel idea, how about looking up the guy/gal who sold you your last vehicle. Maybe when someone says, hey I'm looking for something, try refering them to the person who made you happy the last time. Don't lie, you were happy when you bought it!

It's an age old saying, how do you know a customer is lying? Their lips are moving!

In all fairness to the salesman,he is not the roadblock or time waster it is the guys like me in the store that keeps the poor guy coming back and forth.Believe me,the salesguy wants you out of there and a deal done as much as the customer. If it were up to the salesman they would give the store away to make a deal. They have no idea what the cost is,trade value, intrest retention, etc. These poor guys work their butts off, long hours and:) constant abuse from us managers.Next time you are buying a car take pity on the salesperson, believe me he gets enough abuse already.

Nobody else use employee X type discount plans through work or military? My last purchase I just waited for manufacturer rebate / sale time, then took in my employee discount plan, approved work. Looked at the car. Drove the car. Bought the car. No haggling over anything at all other than adding on a lifetime service contract (which I am soooo glad I did, I dont have to touch my 2011 car for years and it was dirt cheap compared to costs I would of paid out of pocket for the maintenance schedule stuff)

Just curious. I dont like a big fight, debacle of a price war or anything so I just use my discount and shop at sales time - in and out with a killer finance rate as well.

I thought it went like this: "How do you know if a SALESMAN is lying?....."

Of course, I may be mistaken. It could have been a "LAWYER"
;)

Not me. I give a dealership one shot at it. Best price and nothing more. You want to be blunt, lets be blunt. You, the car salesman are not selling a single thing I cant get at any countless other dealerships. Any salesperson can put on a fake smile, act like they care about you, pretend to give a sh** about your needs and everything else, but in the end the only thing in your head driving all the fake bullsh** is the desire to get into my wallet. Plain and simple, thats it. You dont care one bit about joe blow off the street, you care about his wallet and nothing more. So if I can get the exact same song and dance at any dealership, ANY ONE, why should I waste my time dicking around with the dealership bullsh** dance of going back and forth while you drop the price a bit then try to tack on something else to drive the cost up higher?

I dont have time in my life to **** with salespeople. I know what I want when I go to a dealership, I dont need some fake smile and limp wristed handshake, give me your best price up front and lets get the deal done now. If you cant accomplish that one simple thing I am moving on to the next dealer that is selling the exact same thing you are. Modern cars are not unique, I can find hundreds of the same car within easy driving distance, I am buying based on best price out the door. I dont monkey around with haggling, a dealer gives me his best price up front on the phone, and I decide which one I want to go with. If you want the sale, its very simple, do your job and honor your potential customers wishes, give your best shot up front. If that is too hard for you to do, then I now know you cant handle a simpe task and are not worthy of the sale and I will tell others I know are looking for a car that you cant handle a simple request.

Want a tip? My business sales more than quadrupled when i made a simple realization. I am not selling anything unique, I am an electrical contractor, hundreds of them around, just like car dealers. I have to give my customers my best price, and best service and always, ALWAYS go into everything knowing full well if I dont do for my customer exactly what they ask, their are plenty of others around they can go to. I dont stand for sh** out of any business any longer, if you are not selling something unique, something only you have, you damn well better be on your game or I will find someone else who is. This is a buyers market, **** with your customers and soon all you have is a rolodex full of people that went somewhere else.

Im not offended, I would 100% expect a car salesman to hate me. I am a buyer that knows what he is looking at, knows how not to let a salesperson jack it up his ass, and doesnt want his time wasted by a bunch of *******s that dont understand the "customer first" attitude. I am everything a car salesperson doesnt want to see, because it goes against everything a car salesperson knows. Car salespeople are not taught to be honest and genuinely interested in the persons needs, you are taught to be dishonest and to use trickery everywhere possible, thats why the field has the reputation it has, its no secret.

When a buyer that knows you arent the only car dealer in town comes in, its a bad day for you. Trickery and deciet arent going to get you anywhere with me. Trust me Gary, Im not offended, I am very proud when a car salesperson tells me they wouldnt want to deal with me.

And your rolex doesnt impress me even an ounce, I also collect watches, I just dont feel the need to name drop to try to impress people who actually arent impressed one bit.
