I think its great that they are making it but Chevy screwed up on the new Camaro names.

The 1969 ZL1 was built as a NHRA legal race car with it's higher CR, 850 Holley, and L88 cam to meet the 50 car Super Stock minimum

The 1969 427 COPO Camaro, with its iron L72 Impala engine, was more of a street car.
It was a good race car, like many other street cars were, but the L72 is not as wild of an engine as the 1969 ZL1.

The 2012 COPO is more like the 1969 ZL1 and the one they call the 2012 ZL1 should have been called the Super Z or another name related to the old Z/28. The 2012 Zl1 is more like a road race Z/28 Trans Am type of a car with a supercharger.

ALSO think they should use new names and leave the old names to history.

No matter what they do the 2012 Camaro is still UGLY as hell and even if I was able to buy something like that I dont think I would because it still looks like very similar to the same car that every one else is driving down the road a new Camaro and it will always be ugly, sorry guys JMO!

You ever drive and sit in the new Camaro you will know what I saying because they are terrible for the window sill height and you feel like you are driving a box down the road and for that price I would rather just build a pro tour car.

I agree, I hate the look. And I'm 6"4 tall and I still feel like I'm sitting on the ground in a plastic mobile. Those things are so badly built, I don't think there's one part that's not plastic.

This Jay guy is a joke. His title is "The New 2012 COPO CAMARO... AWESOME" even though he did not even read the articles or educate himself on it. He wonders how many they will sell at that price? :clonk:

Then flips completly over and slams it.

I think that your the joke for posting that. I only said it's awesome because of it's impressive quarter mile times and the speed that it can go. Other that that I don't really like it because of the build quality of the camaros.

Well I will bet there are plenty of People standing in line to get one. I stopped by my Local Chevy Dealer to check out the owners 67 435 Corvette Roaster that I had done the Engine compartment on years ago. It had just come back from being put back to its Original Color and Looked Killer. While I was there I window shopped the showroom a New ZR-1 is $122,000, an new Grand Sport was $72,000, a New Surburban was $60,000. heck a New Malibu was $30,000. These cars regardless of People thoughts on looks will establish a Strong Place in Chevrolets history down the road and put Chevrolet back in the Race game. Back when GM endorsed Racing the Motto was Win on Sunday sell on Monday !!!! This will Definately be the fastest Chevrolet Camaro ever built by Chevrolet and or there Performance Divison Yet !!!! With only 69 being made it will have a Concrete place in History !!!!

Yeah I have to agree that car is sure ugley,I hate the fact it has 25 inch fugly rims,no tire sidewalls, low side rocker panels,No chrome treatments,no stainless steel aluminum treatments, plastic material is not what I want,I like USA Sheetmetal Chrome Bumper 15 inch rim cars!

My buddy's company has the contract to build these, as of Sunday they are awaiting for the first shipment cars to be delivered and have to have them (69) completed by December. I hope to get some pics of them in the build process!

we know what the car's price is now. the car on ebay the guy is trying to make some money of the certificate, there is no title,it is sold under a part number.

the 69 people are pretty lucky to get a chance to own it,if they did not respond they lose out. whats the chance all end up on the race track-slim. so they will be sold off and what will they go for,the ZL car went for a allot more than bought.

Today was an interesting day I went down to my local Chevy Dealer too see them!!!

:thumbsup:Jim Good luck with your COPO:thumbsup:

A couple of people have said they would drive it on the street and to cars shows and such but the last line on the Ebay ad says " not legal to be registered or street driven" and everything I've read about them is that they're designed to be driven a quarter mile at a time and that they're not street legal. Now if anyone has a way around these rules well then more power to you and I don't want to know nothing.I was just under the impression that these cars from GM, Ferd and Chissler were track only cars.I'm hoping I am wrong cause I'd love to see one of these pull in on cruise night but I don't think so.

Seems to me the only reason Chevy built this car is they had to come up with one of these to answer back to fords mustang track only super stock car that came out first.I think Chrysler is coming out with a similar built challenger too.So that takes care of the drag strip and for the first time since the Trans Am series changed after the 70's, Camaros,Mustangs and Challengers are racing each other again along with Corvettes racing (and winning against) BMW's and Ferrari's in the Trans Am and GT series of the Rolex Grand Am road racing series.

So maybe they are trying to bring back the 60's but at that time the big 3 were kings and I think that they're just trying to grab back the piece of pie they lost to the imports and this is just one of the ways they're going about doing it.:hurray:

Aren't the Imports made now all front wheel drive? They smoke the frontwheels not the back.My parents bought a 2010 LS Chevy with front wheel drive.Great in the snow for traction. Are all GM products now Front wheel drive?
Its ugly. The rear of the car is just horrible. A piece of over priced plastic, made proudly in Canada.
No, all GM products are not fwd for you to even say that means you haven't done your homework and are only going on what you hear or other people say.Do a little research and you'll see.Chevy has the 2 Camaro's and Corvette,Caddilac has the CTS and the SVX awd. Also, the LS motors make the same or better HP than ford and chrysler and they're pushrod V-8's where the ford is 3 or 4 valve overhead cam.I'm not sure about the chry hemi though.

The Camaro is built off of the zeta platform and its the same platform that the cop car version will be built out of.Although they'll probably stretch it and give it some extra bracing to make a 4 door cop car.
And to everyone who doesn't like the way it looks according to the sales figures since the Camaro outsold both mustang and challenger your opinion of how it looks is in the minority.
And I'm glad its made in Canada at least its not mexico, although I wish it was Linden,NJ.

As far as its competitiveness in the NHRA classes, it's all a matter of what ridiculously low HP rating Chevy gives the engines and NHRA buys without question, just like they did the Mustang and Challenger engines. The lower the rating, the lower the class (classed by lb per HP) or less weight to carry.
