I'm restoring a 1965 Chevelle and I'm having trouble lining up the trunk lid to the body. I have a large gap on the drivers side rear corner and a small gap on the passenger. I was told I needed to tweak the hinges a little bit, but that didn't work. Upon inspection I noticed that the part that the hinge connects to looks higher on the drivers side than the one on the passenger side. I've tried to bend this part, but there isn't much room to get any tools in there and right above that part is the panel that goes from the rear windshield to the trunk. Any prying against that will mess that panel up. Is there a way to fix this problem without having to take the tension bars and hinges out?

Install a 1/8" shim between the trunk lid and the hinge on the top (furtherest from the rear glass) bolt hole on the driver's side and a 1/16 shim on the top hole on the pass side. Iknow is sounds like it would be worse but whatch what happens.:D You may need more of a shim on each side to really bring it down though.

How are you trying to tweak the hinges? These hinges are very easy to tweak.

You need to place a 4x2 between the hinge arm and the bottom of the package try. With the wood in place and the deck lid fully open push upward on the deck lid. The wood blocks the hinge and actually bends it at the curve which is the weak spot and will force the deck lid to lower.

I finally got around to doing this today and it worked. I was amazed. A 1/8 inch shim on the drivers side and a 1/32 shim on the passenger side fixed my problem. Thank you for your help.
There you go!!!:D

BBmusclecars427 it worked for me too!! I also had an annoying 1/4 gap on the left top deck lid corner sitting too high. Even my body & paint guy was stumped. Your shim tweak worked magic. I just used 1/8" & 1/16" washers respectively between the hinge and lid. If you're ever in the So. Cal. area, look me up and I will buy you a beer!!! Thanks!!
:grin2::thumbsup:
