Our Prototype '70-'72 Custom Aluminum Dash Bezel/Instrument Panel is available for your review, thoughts, etc. at the Long Beach Chevelle/El Camino Show tomorrow, Sunday, July 20th.

The pics below show the bezel with the trim installed, and we do have a dash to install it into (It's difficult with the trim not actually glued in place).

See you there.

If you need another malibu dash to practice on- I have a spare 'junk' one(radio area & cig lighter area totaly cut out) I will send it to you for whatever the cost of shipping is.

Extra Malibu Dash
Hacked up radio/Cig area
small crack/hole

I was planning to cut the face out of this one this winter to play with my own custom dash... If you want it- Its yours for the cost of shipping as i mentioned above.

Thanks,

Thanks. We're shipping a bezel with the complete dash early next week, therefore, we have to find and buy the correct size box, and then weigh it.

Then we'll know the actual charge to ship.

We'll let you know when we have the exact amounts for the box and UPS shipping charges.

The minute we feel comfortable with the "Test" Bezel installation (It is installed in a car in Washington State (For Trim Durability), we will apply for the patent, and then offer them for sale.

Hope this helps.

Richard & Judy,

Is the Dawn Enterprises where you got the trim the same company that makes the trash receptacles? I am looking for a trim supplier for my 59 Biscayne project.
Wayne;

Didn't see that in their website, so maybe it's another company or (?)

Here's their website-

We found the glue that holds the trim in place forever.

We also purchased a Sweep Dash thru one of the TC Members, but haven't had any time to build the prototype.

We may have a second test vehicle, as we want to be absolutely sure that installed gauges don't hit anything behind the bezel insert itself.

Between '68-'69 Bezels, '68-'72 Firewalls, Stainless Steel WSW Inserts, and building the '69 Gauge Insert, we haven't had much time to concentrate on the '70-'72 Bezels.

We also ended up building a few aluminum firewalls for early Chevys and Chevy Trucks for certain individuals who had seen the '68-'72 Firewalls. Those were quite an experience, as everything is different from our '64-'72 Chevelles/El Caminos/Monte Carlos.

Did Covan Or others finally offer a '70-'72 Bezel, and if so, what were the opinions?

Hope this helps (?????).

The Covan version is now on their site and opinions are out there on this site: Covan Comments

I like your version since mounting gauges, switches, stereo, etc. is wide open. It's also metal. I think now that the "long awaited" Covan is finally out there, people can make a better visual choice between the two. It would also be enticing to see your dash demo-equipped with Autometers, Vintage Air HVAC items, toggles, and Double-DIN stereo for the visual impact as well as testing the overall strength of the main aluminum panel.

It would also be worth it to make up a matching passenger side vent panel so mounting any billet-style vent that matches the dash choice would be easily accomplished by the owner.

If you do have rear gauge clearance issues, you can mill some nice spacers for the front and have the gauges elevated from the main panel. Now that would be interesting

Just a thought to help get it to market sooner......

HANELINE may also offer a bezel (?????).

The test bezel didn't have any rear clearance issues, but who knows. The cars seem to vary from year to year, and maybe where they were built. An example is the '68-'72 Aluminum Firewalls we sell. The one we just finished for a TC Member (Based on the pattern he furnished) for his '69 was quite a bit different than our own '69, however, all of the others were very close. Another example is the '68-'69 Bezel Insert. When the customers remove their plastic bezel, and give us a top and bottom measurement, we have seen this measurement vary 3/8", and that's quite a bit when you are trying to install a bezel and cover the ends with the trim we furnish.

Anyway, we are always open to any and all ideas and suggestions, and are spending more time on perfecting this particular bezel, and should take the time to build the sweep dash prototype.

I need to start working 24/7 or 8, and could probably catch up. I spend the days finishing the '69 for the upcoming 2004 SCTA/BNI Season, and then work evenings getting products ready for shipping.

We did use our Autometer Pro-Comp Gauges in different dash setups (For pictures) until we finally had to install them in the '69.

If someone can come up with the setup you described above, we could help on the price somewhat to have the pictures for our under construction website.

Catch you later.

The test vehicle for the bezel reported no problems, and the second test vehicle has not completed his installation. We decided to use these test vehicle setups to "Fine Tune" the trim options, as the bezel itself is ready for any installation.

We had actually hoped to end up with a "Rolled Lip" type of trim that is built into the actual bezel itself, but haven't found a fabricator with that type of machinery. If the bezels could be "Punched Out" (Same process as stamping fenders, doors, quarter panels, etc) by some type of machinery, then the options would be "Unlimited"

As to time frames, Judy is retiring for the second time (She retired the last day of '91 from Pacific Telesis/Bell, now SBC), then worked for the City Of Sparks, before moving to Las Vegas in '97, where she is now with the City Of Las Vegas Building Dept.

Our home goes up for sale this Monday Sept. 6th, and we will move back to the Reno/Sparks area (Most likely Fernley). She needs to be closer to her mother (3 hrs), as her mother has had health problems over the past 3 years. My guess is the end of Sept. when we make the actual move.

We will continue to offer our products even after our move, and in fact, will be able to offer them on a shorter time frame without sacrificing any of the quality. We have a long time friend who is a fabricator in the Reno/Sparks area ready to offer these products as we need them. Here in Las Vegas, we have to wait for a time slot from the fabricator, Hal Mechanical (Who is the prime sponsor on our ‘69 El Camino Race Car Project), as they are busy with both their “Higher End Commercial and Residential Mechanical" business, plus they build portable shooting ranges for both government and private companies/individuals.

Hope this helps.
