Unless you're going to do the interior in Black or Red, all metal components of the interior should be the same color as the body of the car.
Well, that is sort of true in this case, but only because this particular car happens to be the same basic color inside (slate) and outside (glacier gray). But anyone reading your post who does not realize that might be confused by your statement. To be clear, the interior metal components were always the color of the interior (with varying shades on certain parts), not the color of the outer body (unless the car happens to be the same color in and out). The only exceptions were the white interior cars which had black metal parts in 65.
If it's Glacier Grey, the I would think the dash pad and carpets would be Black.
That's not correct. See correct answers below (based on the specs contained in the original 1965 Chev. parts book and Product Data book):
Carpet - a dark gray color, called "Gunmetal" by Chevrolet.
Door panels - the upper portion is the same slate gray color as the outer parts of the seat covers. The lower portion beneath the chrome strip at the bottom is Gunmetal to match the carpet.
Dash pad - Gunmetal
Upper dash metal (the part hidden beneath the dash pad and visible around the speaker grill and between the dash pad and the bottom of the windshield) - Gunmetal, very flat and with a heavy textured appearance.
Door top metal, metal beneath the rear glass, and the lower dash metal - Glacier Gray like the exterior of the car, although for some reason GM called it "Medium Slate" when used inside the car rather than Glacier gray. These parts should be somewhere between 60% and 80% gloss.
Inside of A-pillars (next to windshield) - These should be either Glacier Gray/Medium Slate, or Gunmetal, with no more than 60% gloss, but not textured like the top of the dash. I am not sure which color is correct. The Product Data book says the A-pillars were the same color as the
lower dash and door tops, but some unrestored 65's that I have seen with other color interiors have the same darker color on the A-pillars as the
top of the dash (just without the texturing and not as flat). I have never seen a well preserved original Slate 65 interior to know which is correct for that particular color.
There are not any visible painted metal "posts next to the rear glass", so I am not sure what you are asking about there.
Good luck!
