I think I hit my mid-life crisis.:D I am looking for a BMX(cruiser 24") bike. I am thinking of a Redline.
My question is, is there any websites that sell complete bikes? If so, what is a good website to order from?

Are there any BMX bikes made in America?

When did they start making hydraulic disc brakes for bikes?

Jay,

They've been making hydraulic disc brakes on bikes, mainly mountain bikes for 10+ years. Now even a cable driven disc brake is better than no disc brake.

The place I've bought my bikes from is JensonUSA. Awesome prices and customer service.

They aren't huge into BMX bikes, but they do sell some.

Thank you.

How old are you, Jayfords?

Ahhh the good ole days.. Used to have a Robinson pro team...
Me too. They no longer make them, I looked.:(

This thread caught my eye immediately- I'm 38 too and have been wishing I had all my old trick/ BMX bikes.

I had a neat Kuwahara trick bike back in the day, took a lot of falls off that thing.
My pal had a nice Redline and another had a Haro + all the old Huffy's etc. We'd ride for hours.
I had a cool black bike with yellow accents and yellow honeycomb wheels- forget the brand.

Don't get me started on my folks throwing out my Powell Peralta skateboard when I went off to school... although if I had it now I'd probably be in a cast up to my neck.

DANG! Just looked on e-bay bikes like mine are going for close to $1,000 now???

I almost did this when I was about 33 (now 43). I went with a friend to watch his girlfiend's kids race and saw the older class...thought it was pretty cool! He said he was thinking of doing it, too. Went to look at bikes, even (Redlines ). With my work schedule and the amount of training to get in shape...never pulled the trigger.

I raced when I was 15 & 16 (on a Redline) and had a blast.

At 43 and over 6' I can sometimes be found tearing through the local trails on mine. Early90s vintage GT box series. Completely restored

Got a NOS Robinson layback seat post, CW bars, redline seat.
Lots of fun. Just getting used to something so light.

Think a 24" is the next one,(probably a little more controllable) thinking about selling this one off
Supposedly some guys factory ride back in the day came with some super light weight parts on it put them in a bag and replaced them with the stuff I like.

I got heavy in to mountain biking and trail building 20 years ago. The bikes are a whole lot more comfortable w/26" or 29" dia wheels and 4-6" of suspension travel. If you are the competitive, skinny, in shape guy that likes to race - there are options all over this nation...
I started racing bmx for the local yamaha m/c shop back in the early 70's when my mom was thier book keeper. Used a moto-bike back then which was a minibike less a motor. Was heavy and the frame material was not up to par - broke 4 frames. Then I changed to a "made in USA" schwinn with a cromoly frame that was the ticket instead. The shop guys at the yamaha dealer painted it up to look like a yz dirt bike. cool stuff !!!....

In the mid 2000’s I was big into getting old school BMX bikes and parts…if the wife knew how much money I spent she’d kill me. Still have them all. I was even able to find all the parts to recreate the bike I had as a kid.

To be young again...:)

I am another old BMX racer... didn't know there were so many around here? Anyone remember the bike brand "ELF"? They were popular in MN at least, and that was my baby. Also had a Diamond Back before that... bent the frame on that one when I went down HARD one time. Even bruised my kidney on that crash. Oh to be young again x2. :)

Last year I wanted to get a bike again and thought about picking up a 24" cruiser. Didn't really see anytying I liked though.

I did get a bike and ended up getting a rigid frame single speed 26" mountain bike. Kind of like an even bigger cruiser. And it's a Redline... check out the Redline Monocog. It works well for just riding around on the streets once in a while and jumping a couple curbs like I use it for.

A few kids had Elfs when I was younger.

SE Racing

I have a 24" SE Quadangle Frame and fork set waiting to be built. (Not making 24" Quadangles right now).
I also have a 29'er Big Ripper I cruise the neighborhood with my kids.

Check these out.

There is a 26" quadangle at a bike store near me, he wants $700. The store owner is also a Chevelle fanatic. He does not use this site, he does not like the internet. :(

I like that SE OM Flyer 26" bike! At least in pics!

What do you really plan on doing as far as riding, Jay?

The Monocog is really a tallish frame and not ideal for jumping and things like that. It is fun for cruising around and just riding, but if you plan on more "active" riding it's probably not that great.

I still have thoughts from time to time about getting a 24" cruiser to go rip around on. I don't ride that much, so don't know if I can justify it. Then again, if I had afun bike I might ride more? I even think about a 20" bike sometimes, but that seems like it would be soooo small now. Someone said earlier that they're over 6 feet and they still ride a 20", so who knows?

Dang it! Now you ahve me thinking about more bikes, Jay. :)
