The motor on my MTD weed wacker runs fine for about 30 seconds, then shuts off and is impossible to restart. I replaced all the gas but no change. It does not appear to be a gas tank venting issue as I can take the cap off and it still won't restart. Seems to start OK after it sits a day. I have no experience with these little engines. Any suggestions? Anything I can adjust or replace? Spark plug looks OK.

Thanks

Weird, I have roughly the same problem with a Troy Bilt.

Near impossible to start, once it starts, it will run if I keep the throttle wide open and if it dies, just put it away because it's not going to start again.

Modern 2 cycle motors are very finicky about the 3 gas tubes being PERFECT.
1. Fuel feed
2. Fuel prime
3. Fuel return

They typically get soft and disentigrate at the tank adapter thingy.

This is going to sound strange, but taking Gus's post a little further....
When mine acts up like that, I turn it upside down and shake it (like agitating the fuel/gas mix). Activate the choke and it starts every time.

Up here we do not have as much ethanol but, the little thing is sensitive to fuel. I put carb cleaner through it every Spring. It's over 30 years old and still works.

You most likely need to check the exhaust flame screen. They become plugged up, and won't run. Some models, they're in the outlet pipe on the muffler. Others, you have to remove the muffler and the screen's sandwiched between it and the head. Clean it out good and reinstall.
