I have a 72 with a 72 454 hi po block with 427 oval port heads. It has about 10 hours total on it as the car isn't street legal yet. It runs incredibly smoothly and has tons of power with about 60 lbs of oil pressure. It runs at about 180 degrees once warmed up. It puffs a little oil smoke if I goose it but I've been told this is normal and it just needs to be taken out and run in.
Lately it has been fouling plugs. I pulled them out and some are dry and others are wet with oil. Is this normal for such a new engine?I don't think I've ever run it over 3000 rpm.

I used the gaskets with the metal mesh sandwiched in the middle. Seems to have cured my disappearing oil problem.
HI Keith.

Which gaskets are these?

To the OP--- How much oil is the 454 using?

Try going up one or two heat ranges on your plugs (hotter).
