Finally something I have knowlede of on here, even though it's not really about a Chevelle! LOL

I'm a big fan of these trannys. They can actually be wet or dry clutches, but wet ones are the vast majority due to higher torque capabilities. They have one clutch for even gears, and one for odd. Thus, when shifting from 1st to 2nd, one clutch is disengaging as the other is engaging. IMO, it's the best of both worlds! Performance comparable to a manual, convenience comparable to an auto. :hurray:

No clutch pedal and no torque converter.

They are very nice. My 2.0L GLI has the DSG trans and it works great. Dare I say it better than a standard manual trans. It truly feels like a stick car, since it is, when you drive it. I test drove the same car in a stick model and there was no way I could out shift the DSG and I tried. The DSG was simply faster. With the paddle shifters, sport mode it was well worth the extra $.

Oh, and it is has a launch control where you can put your left foot on the brake and right foot on the gas and the car will just sit there till you release the brake. Launches just like standard stick car. Very nice unit.

I am now looking at a 135i and I would prefer the dual disc auto over the manual any day of the week and trust me I am surprised that I am saying that!

Can attest to this, my wife has a diesel Jetta with DSG and it sounds and feels (as a passenger or as the driver) like a manual. You feel a slight jerk between shifts, as if someone else is perfectly shifting into the next gear. Took me awhile to get used to........
