New Member - Best place to look for a car?

Hello, I am a new member from Louisiana. I do not currently own a Chevelle, but soon to be in the market. My second car as a 17 year old was an 11 year old 1972 SS Convertible. Nicely restored we bought it for $5250! The good old days. Had to get rid of it during college. 25 years later I can finally scratch the Chevelle itch again. Currently I have a 1966 Corvette convertible with an L-72 427 and want a "family" car to go with it. And the market seems to be good for buyers.

What is the best way to find a nice, real deal car? I do not mind paying fair money for a good car, but I do not want to pay a premium for a "made up" car. I am not super particular and there are several years that I like, but I prefer a real matching #'s and documented car. The more original the better, but I am open to an older restoration as well.

1966, 1967 or 1970 are my years of choice. Super Sport, convertible or hardtop, auto or 4 speed, open on colors and options. The main thing I need is air conditioning since it gets so hot in south Louisiana and I will be carrying the family in it. This car will be driven. I love show cars, but I love driving these cars even more and want my six year old boys to learn to love these cars the way I did, driving and working on them.

Thanks for any input.

Welcome to TC, Larry. I'm right up I-10 from you!!

You're after the most sought after years, '66, '67, or '70. Numbers matching, documented cars of these years bring serious dough.

Stay away from dealers for the most part, check the TC classifieds, scour the internet, and post any car you're looking at in the "What's it Worth" section here at TC. The knowledge of the people on this website for anything Chevelle is unsurpassed.

Good luck finding a Chevelle.

Private Party is better than a classic car dealer. But you still need to educate yourself and be careful when buying a classic car. I would suggest you talk to Mike Crown if you are in the market for a 1966 or 1967 Chevelle. you will find the best of the best 1966 and 1967 Chevelles and very accurate description from an extremely knowledgeable source.

Welcome Larry,

I did alot of research on TC before I pulled the trigger on my 66. I built a 3 ring binder and printed out information and notes. I just wanted to make sure I did not have to remember the little things. Brought it with me when I looked at each car. I am not too far from you just a little west down I-10. Good luck with your quest, there are some wonderful cars out there.
