I made a template to fab one out of 18 ga. for my 67. After looking at all the parts needed, it looks easier to just order the $65 one from Summit (I don't have a box brake). If you weld it yourself be careful and take the usual precautions about cleaning the tank. In addition be careful with the heat as the metal is very thin and looks easy to warp. I welded a bung on mine for my EFI return and ended up stitch welding it with a MIG to keep the heat down. There are some pics on the forum of several sumps.

the local home center paint stripper will work. get the gel type, brush on.

Brush it on let it sit a few min, brush some more on and keep moving it around with the brush. it should turn it into black soupy liquid that you can wipe off with a rag. you wont even have to scrape it. Were gloves.

I had an aftermarket sump welded onto the tank of my '56. After a couple years the welds gave way. Now it could have been bad welding or maybe with all the removal/replacement of fuel lines I tightened the AN fittings too hard. So, in the for what it may be worth column, be cautious when tightening the fittings.

Had a sump welded onto my gas tank. For safety, the guy welding it flushed the tank out with water thoroughly, then did a fine job of welding it in place.
A year later, the rust flakes ruined one fuel pump and clogged a bunch of fuel filters.

I put an 8 gallon fuel cell in the trunk.

Now buying a new gas tank is on my list of things to do to make the Chevelle a street car again. :(

Just did this in my brand f hotrod. Got a new replacement tank from the Zone for $99 or so, and the $50 sump from Summit. No cleaning, and $45 to weld it at a shop.
