Finally got the new engine fired off for the first time yesterday! And thanks to everyone for all the great advice along the way. Couldn't of got this far without all the help!

Running into a problem with the Edelbrock 1806 though. On the first fire up, gas came gushing out of the top of the retainer for the driver side metering rod. Figured out it was a stuck float, fixed that and made a couple runs. There is a definite stumble starting right off idle. I just checked the float levels and made some minor adjustments. Checked the metering rods and their not sticking. One thing i noticed is the secondary air door was binding up and getting stuck open. I think i fixed that, but clear up to 3500 or so that door does not open. At what point should that door be opening, and what is the proper precedure for adjusting the spring tension. I went a turn and a half after it closed? Any suggestions before i start changing rods and springs.

BTW, i set timing per posts here. 36 total with vacuum unhooked. It was all in by 3000, and then hooked the vacuum line back up.

Heres a link to a half ass burnout but you can hear the bogging. But i was still all smiles :beers:

I don't have facebook so I couldn't see your burn out.I got my 467 MJ vortecpro motor purring like a kitten yesterday with some help so I kind of know how excited you must feel.Does Edelbrock have a site like Holley with a bunch of videos or a search here might help you with your bog.How big is a 1806? Motor like that should have atleast 670.I have a 650 on my 383 Stroker in my winter driver truck.

Thanks Dave. Went with the Felpros and everything worked. The 1806 is a 650 from their thunder series. It's the carb that was on the crate engine i got from Atk , so i assumed everything should have been dialed in. but i know their are a lot of variables. I downloaded the Edelbrock owners manual but it doesn't mention much about the air doors.

Ya and sorry about the facebook post. My daughter shot the video and put it up for me
