Hey Herb,

I am in the market for a radiator setup for my car. That Ron Davis rig you got sure looks nice. Have you had any cooling issues with this setup? How does this compare to alumitech? Do you mind if I ask you what it cost you?

Thanks

Tom

Awesome! Not only did you get a feature, you got the cover!

Hi Tom,

The only issue I've had is the engine ran too cool for the EFI. I ended up having to install a 195 thermostat in place of the restrictor disc and adjust the Spal fans to come on at a higher temp. It still takes a while to get above 195 but once there it hovers around 200 which is perfect for the EFI. When I had the carb on it, the temps stayed in the 170-175 range.

As for cost, I can't remember off the top of my head but I think with the fans/shroud it was a little under a grand. I'll dig through my receipts and see if I can find the actual price.

Thanks herb. I think it's coming down to your setup or alumitech. Congrats on the cover as well!!

I've never had an Alumitech so I can't say good or bad, but I have had two other Ron Davis rads and they were worth every penny.

Oh, and thanks!

I haven't posted any updates in a while so I thought I would share my new front spoiler.

The reason for this one is convenience. On the rare occasion that I need to trailer the car, the old spoiler needed to be removed and it was a bit of a PITA to do. Then I had to reinstall it after the car came off the trailer, then do it all over again to get home.

So, this new spoiler attaches to a frame that stays mounted to the bumper. The button head allen bolts are easily removed so the spoiler can come on and off with very little trouble. On top of that, the openings for the brake cooling ducts weren't in the best place. The new one is center mounted which makes for better routing of the hoses going to the rotors. There's also a splitter on the bottom.

For when I do LSR at the Maxton Mile, I have a second spoiler that attaches to the same frame on the bumper and the splitter swaps between the two (it's not on in this picture). The Maxton spoiler extends down to about 1.75" above the ground and doesn't have the brake duct opening.

This is the flange that stays on the bumper...

And here's a behind the scenes look at the assembled spoiler...
