I have restored a 70ss 396-375, The problem is the cowl breather sit too high using the spacer that came with the repo breather. Is there another spacer available that is not as tall. Without using the spacer at all it sets too low . My breather pipe that plugs into my valve cover will not line up.Thanks John

It almost sounds as if you may have the wrong spacer. But, if in fact it is the correct spacer, and its too high, is it possible that you have the wrong intake manifold? The manifold used on ALL CI hood setups was a LOW rise version, even the LS6 engines.
A spacer which is about 1/3 the height, is one which was used on about 1980-1-2? throttle body injected (Olds V-8 style engines) 350s in front drive cars such as Toronados (Riveria, eldorado). This spacer is discontinued from GM, but they are not TOO difficult to find in the salvage yards. The overall height is 1in, but it only raises the air cleaner about 3/4in because of the lip which fits up into the bottom of the air cleaner.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM WITH MY COWL BREATHER,The spacer was correct, the piece of crap repo rubber seal that mounts to the breather was so stiff the hood would not close. I took it off and smashed it with weights for a couple of hours then put it back on and now it works. I had the same problem with my cowl to hood seal, bought three of them until I found one soft enough so the hood would close without sticking up in the rear a additional inch. Just about everything I have purchased that was a repoduction has been junk,Guess thats the nature of the beast. I have learned one thing with this restoration.....NEVER THROW ANYTHING AWAY THAT IS FACTORY, NO MATTER HOW BAD-A-SHAPE IT IS IN.
