One piece oil pan gaskets

Glenn,
Dry and clean. That is how gaskets are designed to be installed. Only exception is where two different gaskets join, such as the corners of four piece pan gaskets, timing cover gasket to oil pan juncture, etc. A dab of good quality silicon in these areas is OK.
One piece oil pan gaskets are just like any other gasket; tighten them in the proper sequence and to the correct torque specs.
