I bought this 69 Chevelle in which the past owner who owned it for 18 years cloned it to a SS396 car and painted it Blue. I obtained the GM Build Sheet and found out the original colour was Code 69 Cortez Silver with Dark Blue Interior and a Dark Blue Vinyl Roof. By the sheet its a bucket seat, console car with a L48 350/300. So I removed all the SS396 emblems and welded over all the holes and stripped the car. I am leaving the SS hood on the car just because I like the looks of it. So I ordered the 350 emblems that go over the front side markers and the Malibu emblems that go ahead of the rear side markers. Very clean car other than the drivers door was full of mud because of a previous accident and someone was too lazy to pull the dent. I kind of chickened out on the Blue Vinyl roof thing so far.

Here's what I started with;

Looking great Dave! How about a little about the '71 Heavy Chevy next to it?
Hey Mike
Thats my first car when I was 17. I have owned it almost 27 years. When I bought it, it was that light green colour with the black Heavy Chevy striping and with that light green interior with the same colour rubber mat floor. When I first built it I cloned it to look like a SS car like everyone else does. 5 years ago it went back to a Heavy Chevy but not green lol. The colour is Corvette Daytona Sunset Orange.
307, powerglide car.

Now it has 427 small block , turbo 350 , 12 bolt 4.10's.
Runs 11.6's on average.

No, a local shop is doing it for me. Stripped it, took it apart , but thats all I can do, if I want it to look nice.
Are you involved in the London AutoFest?
I am working my butt off to get it finished for the show.

Dave

Yes I am, though I am simply helping with the show, work the doors, security, whatever as the club I am in is doing this. Do you think you have a good chance of finishing it or do all the stars have to align with zero problems to get done in time?

I will have it done!!!!
In 2 weeks it should have colour, then it is assembly time for me. (All new Chrome, interior back in)
I have to decide if I am going to run the Torque Thrust II's or the Welds off the 71.

Dave

Hi Dave, looks like we have a few guys in and around the London area on the site. I love the cortez silver paint, the car should look great once it's back together. Does the car have a 396 in it now or converted back to sb. Your '71 runs strong!

I like your car, the car show pic at Plunkets?
Is that a Covans dash?
Pro-Car seats?

Dave

Yes it has a 350 in it now. I don't want to slow it down with a BB (lol j/k). All the SS bling is off, just back to the basics Malibu and 350 emblems.
Nothing wrong with that

Yeah, there are a few of us around here, check out the CanAm club if you haven't already; nice 70 btw.
Yes that's good to know, i've checked the site a few times ( nice site) and i will look into joining, i'm currently an ACES member also

yes to all your questions Dave, as far as the dash goes i purchased the dash cover and then added the gauges myself. Maybe i will see some of you guys at Plunket's show this year, I believe the NCRS will be there this year (my cousin is going to get his '71 judged) and perhaps a CanAm show, keep us updated on the '69, take care, Mike
